Closing Date for Applications ; 10th February 2026 Salary Range : Up to £67,000 An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Business Analyst at Rail Delivery Group. You will play an integral role in working on some of our most complex and rewarding programmes from pay as you go and mobile ticketing, enhanced customer information, passenger assistance and railcards to modern settlement systems processing billions in annual ticket revenue. As a Senior Business Analyst, you will lead and develop more junior business analysts whilst often working in a complex multi-organisation stakeholder environment. You will work with our project and programme managers to identify and define the analysis elements of a programme of work, assisting them in planning and delivering these activities. You will use your business understanding, technical expertise, and problem-solving skills to support RDG in implementing solutions in a cost-effective way. You will also form part of the newly established RDG Business Analysis Practice, supporting the BA Practice Lead, in setting BA standards and processes, sharing best practice and working collaboratively to ensure consistent, high-quality business analysis deliverables. What can I expect to do in this job? This isn’t an exhaustive list, but things you can expect to be involved with include: Lead business analysis deliverables for complex projects and programmes across the organisation Mentor and support other business analysts including management of more junior business analysts Understand and clearly define the scope of change initiatives Support in the development of business cases for major investment programmes Work with customer, technical and other teams to understand detailed wants and needs, identifying and articulating solution options, rules, benefits and risks Prepare and lead requirements gathering workshops Elicit, document and prioritise high level business requirements and elaborate these to a detailed level Manage the prioritisation of change initiatives and requirements Develop operating models including ‘as-is’ and ‘to-be’ process documentation Engage and collaborate with customer experience and UI designers Define requirements for procurement and supplier selection (e.g. RFI, RFP) Coordinate and input into the procurement evaluation process, evaluating suppliers’ proposals and capability to meet the requirements Review technical designs to ensure the solution meets the requirements and rail industry standards Produce relevant functional, operational process and technical material to validate solutions with stakeholders and suppliers Act as a critical voice to stakeholders, delivery colleagues and suppliers in order to achieve solutions that are fit for purpose and facilitate collaboration. Ensure a thorough impact analysis has been carried out and solution design details are documented accurately prior to development commencing. Support internal and suppliers’ QA teams in reviewing acceptance criteria, ensuring that the team builds and achieves those criteria Support defect management activities during the development and assurance stages Proactively identify risks and issues, undertake impact assessments and develop successful mitigation plans Measure and report on benefits delivery Provide input into future development roadmaps Contribute to the development of the RDG Business Analysis Practice, developing standards and increasing the capability of business analysis at RDG. Demonstrable experience as a Senior Business Analyst with a proven track record of delivering complex solutions across diverse projects and environments Experience of leading small business analysis teams and seeking to improve business analysis standards and practices Experience of working with in complex programmes and stakeholder environments, engaging with multiple parties and managing conflict to elicit requirements and undertake analysis Minimum of 5 years working as a business analyst or in a closely related area in a professional environment Experience of public sector procurement, ITSO, mobile or payment cards would be beneficial Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Experience and knowledge of analysis activities across the full project development lifecycle Experience in translating technical details into a non-technical level when explaining and presenting to stakeholders. Proven experience in analysing complex information, synthesising input from multiple stakeholders, and translating functional and technical solution design details into structured coherent documentation. System and process modelling and re-engineering Experience of producing and critiquing data/workflow diagrams and wireframes Understanding of design thinking and customer experience analysis including journey mapping Collaboration and facilitation skills to work effectively with a broad range of both internal and external stakeholders, running various sessions and posing the right questions to gather requirements and feedback on solution design Understanding of data privacy and GDPR regulation and legislation Attention to detail and proactiveness with forward planning, enabling issues to be identified, coupled with thoroughness and a determination to resolve them Ability to produce excellent quality written documentation to support your work, report on findings and present to stakeholders when required Experience of prioritizing tasks and managing deadlines, proactive and delivery focused Exposure to project management processes for agile and waterfall projects Data analysis and modelling skills to investigate issues and identify impacts (Excel/SQL/Tableau) is beneficial Strong adaptable communication and presentation skills tailored to support a diverse range of stakeholders About Rail Delivery Group Rail plays an ever more crucial role in Britain.
