Overview:
RTI’s Technology Advancement & Commercialization business unit operates the RTI Pilot Xcelerator, a technical development and demonstration facility that enables derisking of innovative energy and industrial process technologies and scaling from lab- and bench-scales to pilot-scales. Our experienced team of scientists and engineers develop, scale, and demonstrate advanced energy process technologies, such as carbon capture, biofuels production, fuels and chemicals such as hydrogen, methanol, ammonia, and synthetic aviation fuel, and iron and steel processes at the ton per day scale.
We work with public and private sector clients to provide engineering and technical services to advance and position technology innovations for commercialization. In addition, RTI provides services that accelerate the commercial readiness of technologies include technology-driven market intelligence and analysis, value proposition assessments, competitive analysis, customer discovery, and supply chain development.
Responsibilities:
We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, creative, and outgoing candidate to support business development efforts and increase our pipeline of clients seeking technology development, scaling, and commercialization.
In this new and exciting role, you will work with senior technical experts, laboratory management, and project and proposal leaders to identify and pursue commercial clients seeking to develop and scale their technologies for technical and commercial readiness. Such technologies may include innovative energy processes, efficient gas separations, waste-to-chemicals, sustainable materials, low-carbon fuels production, critical minerals or other advanced engineering solutions. Furthermore, you will work with RTI’s technical teams to leverage federal funding opportunities, e.g. with Department of Energy and Department of Defense, to attract new commercial partners for R&D and technology scale-up opportunities.
You will perform market research, identify commercial clients and business opportunities, and work with RTI technical experts to develop proposals for RTI’s technology development services. You will engage and coordinate discussions with existing and new clients regarding potential new business topics. Additionally, you will coordinate with RTI technical leads and project staff to share business intelligence and discuss new business opportunities with commercial sectors and clients, and work with marketing and communications staff to prepare and publish marketing material and communications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in scientific or engineering field and 8 years of experience, Master’s degree and 6 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated, successful track record in building relationships with commercial clients and ability to interact effectively and positively with all levels of internal and external clients and colleagues in energy and industrial sectors. Experience with federal government clients in the energy sector is a plus.
  • Experience in scientific or technical business operations as well as commercial business development or technical sales.
  • Ability and willingness to be a resident staff member at RTI’s headquarters in Research Triangle Park, NC.
  • Ability and willingness to travel when and as needed
Responsibilities
  • Generate pipeline of commercial clients for energy development and scale-up projects in the RTI Pilot Xcelerator.
  • Research clients (that include technology development start-ups, energy majors, venture capital firms, and public sector), identify key contacts, connect with prospects, and generate interest in RTI’s services and products through timely, regular outreach.
  • Conduct background research for pitch meetings, help with development of BD collateral (e.g., marketing brochures, pitch decks, social media postings), document activities.
  • Organize, schedule and participate in client meetings and coordinate follow-up items.
  • Use marketing and sales information services and platforms to support actions required for all phases of the sales cycle – from opportunity identification and lead generation though closing.
  • Participate in internal marketing, account planning and sales pipeline meetings.
  • Work with technical staff and teams to generate client proposals and close sales.

Your ability to prepare, proofread, edit, and present documents and presentations makes you adaptable to various audiences, from the public to executive-level and external client groups. In fast-paced settings, you exhibit flexibility and excel at prioritizing multiple tasks and work streams, ensuring timely execution of deliverables. Your advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word, as well as customer relationship management software such as Salesforce, enables you to support high-quality output across all projects and track clients and opportunity pipelines along with RTI management, technical and other business development staff.
