POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are looking for a dynamic and self-motivated Senior Business Development Specialist to join our team at WestPac. In this role, you will be responsible for fostering strong relationships with our agency partners, promoting our commercial and personal lines products, expanding our footprint and supporting various marketing initiatives. Your technical expertise in insurance products, industry trends, and communication skills will be key to helping us expand our footprint and enhance our market presence.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in insurance marketing, business development, or related fields, with a preference for candidates with Broker or Underwriter experience.
  • Required insurance licensing as mandated by the State Department of Insurance in the states where the agency operates (or willingness to obtain the necessary licenses).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher). Familiarity with agency management systems and other creative software is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to travel regularly for agency visits and industry events.

Salary: $90k-$100k DOE plus commission, expected total compensation between $115k-$150k

Responsibilities
  • Product Expertise: Develop and maintain a deep, strategic understanding of WestPac’s insurance products and services, positioning them within the broader P&C marketplace to identify emerging opportunities and competitive advantages.
  • Market Strategy & Planning: Partner with leadership to shape and refine business development and marketing strategies; assess market trends, competitor positioning, and client needs to ensure WestPac’s growth objectives are met.
  • Agency Partnerships & Growth: Serve as a relationship manager with key retail agencies, fostering long-term, consultative partnerships. Guide agencies on strategic growth initiatives, emerging industry challenges, and solutions to strengthen mutual business performance.
  • Territory Development: Lead the strategic expansion of WestPac’s geographic footprint by identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing new markets. Develop go-to-market plans for untapped or underdeveloped regions.
  • Reporting: Provide leadership with data-driven insights by analyzing pipeline activity, agency performance, and market developments. Prepare executive-level reporting to inform growth strategies and performance goals.
  • Revenue Growth: Partner with executive leadership to define premium growth targets and drive accountability across channels. Leverage analytics, agency segmentation, and business planning to maximize revenue potential.
  • Carrier Relations & Alignment: Maintain positive, ongoing relationships with carriers to ensure smooth operations and support.
  • Team Support: Work closely with internal teams (Brokers, Underwriters, Accounting, Claims) to address technical issues and resolve client-related concerns.
  • Industry Presence: Represent WestPac at key trade shows, conventions, and industry forums, positioning the company as a thought leader and trusted partner.
  • Strategic Projects: Lead and contribute to company-wide initiatives and special projects that enhance operational effectiveness, market positioning, and long-term business development strategy.
