POSITION OVERVIEW:

Join the City of Maple Ridge as a Senior Buyer and take on a key leadership role in municipal procurement. In this dynamic and strategic position, you will lead the procurement of complex goods, services, and equipment while advising departments, negotiating contracts, and ensuring purchasing activities meet policy, legal, and ethical standards. Your expertise will directly support the City’s operations and service delivery, while helping shape procurement best practices and optimize value for the community.
As a Senior Buyer, you will oversee the full procurement lifecycle—from competitive sourcing to contract administration—and play an advisory role to departments on risk, compliance, and market conditions. You will support innovation through research and analysis, liaise with cooperative buying groups, and may provide work direction to junior procurement staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by completion of the Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation (or equivalent) plus sound related public sector experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of municipal procurement policies, legislation, and ethical standards.
  • Considerable knowledge of the sources, pricing, and suitability of a wide range of goods and services.
  • Considerable knowledge of contract law, corporate insurance, and public sector negotiations.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare, issue, and administer complex contracts, tenders, RFPs, and RFQs.
  • Proven ability to analyze market conditions, recommend sales strategies, and manage surplus disposals.
  • Excellent advisory skills to guide departments on procurement risk and process improvements.
  • Strong research, cost analysis, and reporting capabilities.
  • Sound knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and procurement software .
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to foster internal and external relationships.
  • Ability to provide work direction and mentorship to junior procurement staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Public sector procurement experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Municipal sector, cooperative purchasing groups and policy development is an asset.
