THE OPPORTUNITY

Downer’s Energy & Utilities business is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Senior Buyer to support the delivery of procurement activities across a diverse portfolio of regional projects and contracts.
Reporting to the Procurement Manager or Lead, you will play a key role in sourcing materials and services efficiently, effectively, and in full compliance with Downer’s procurement standards. You will work closely with delivery teams and suppliers, contributing to successful outcomes across essential infrastructure projects.
This role is part of a collaborative and high-performing national team, with a strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re seeking a procurement professional with a strong commercial mindset, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach:

• Tertiary qualifications in Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related discipline
• 5+ years’ experience in procurement or supply chain, ideally within construction, energy, or utilities
• Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g. JDEGS, Felix, Microsoft Dynamics) and Microsoft Office
• Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
• A solutions-focused mindset with the ability to manage competing priorities

• Manage end-to-end sourcing, purchasing, and contracting activities across projects and contracts
• Develop and implement procurement plans aligned to project requirements
• Ensure compliance with Downer procurement systems and policies (P2P, DFA, Felix, JDEGS)
• Build strong relationships with suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders
• Proactively identify procurement risks and contribute to cost optimisation initiatives
