Job Introduction

Purpose of the role:

  • To provide care for the residents under the guidance and supervision of the General Manager, Deputy Manager, and to undertake other activities to assist in the smooth running of the Home as required.
  • To deliver an exceptional level of service to Residents in line with their personal preferences whilst always promoting their comfort and dignity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To work in line with the Company’s Vision and Values, and treat every resident, and colleague with care and respect.
  • To provide companionship and compassion and strive to provide the highest standard of care achievable.
  • To act as a key worker for allocated residents. Ensuring that you greet any residents, for whom you are a key worker, on admission to the home and assist them to settle in.
  • To assist the residents in personal care including washing, bathing, dressing, and toilet needs.
  • Responding promptly to call bells.
  • To report any accidents or unexplained injuries immediately to the person in charge.
  • To ensure that residents are always socially presentable in appearance.
  • To ensure that residents have any aids e.g. - Dentures, Hearing Aids, Spectacles etc fitted, cleaned and in working order.
  • To assist the residents in rehabilitation activities under the guidance and supervision of the General Manager and trained staff.
  • To assist in the cleaning of the Home as the need arises, particularly dining areas after meals and to support infection control e.g., cleaning up spills immediately. To support the home to achieve the highest standard of cleanliness.
  • To pay due respect to residents’ possessions and to ensure that bedrooms and communal areas are tidy and presentable.
  • To work at all times, within the guidelines of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Employee Handbook and Company Health and Safety Policy and Procedure.
  • To be aware of the Fire Procedure and Evacuation Plans of the home and be aware of all fire exits.
  • To complete all Company Health and Safety and Fire checks as requested.
  • To ensure readiness to commence work at the time stated on the Duty Rota and not to abandon duty without permission from the General Manager or Person-in-charge.
  • To adhere to the policy relating to personal appearance and the uniform policy whilst on duty.
  • To ensure that articles for laundry are sluiced if soiled before placing into correct container.
  • To ensure the appropriate segregation of waste material. That it is disposed of in accordance with current legislation and Company Policy and Procedure for Infection Control.
  • To report to the Person in Charge any changes in individual resident’s condition and any other relevant matter, noting especially and changes in skin condition.
  • To report to the Person in Charge any verbal concerns or complaints raised by the service user or visitors.
  • To recognise your own caring limitations and to seek guidance from the General Manager or Deputy Manager as appropriate.
  • To refer all enquiries regarding the care or condition of residents to the senior staff irrespective of the source of the enquiry.
  • To respect the rights of residents including privacy and dignity.
  • To assist in the serving and clearing of meals, snacks, and drinks. To demonstrate exceptional customer service, particularly in respect of hospitality services.
  • To assist residents to eat and drink, monitoring intake and reporting any concerns to the Person in Charge.
  • Complete all food and fluid charts and any other daily monitoring records as requested, at the time the care is provided, and in detail.
  • To undertake any training necessary for the completion of your duties. To be aware of Mandatory training and dates to attend training.
  • To attend staff and other meetings as requested.
  • To abide by all company Policies and Procedures in accordance with the Staff Handbook and Policies and Procedures.
  • To participate in social activities with residents and to use all interactions with residents as an opportunity for stimulation/ occupation. To listen to residents’ individual life histories, and support in the tailoring of the care and events provided to them.
  • To report any concerns regarding possible abuse of residents immediately to the person in charge.
  • To always respect the confidentiality of our residents and the home in general, including when you are using social networking systems.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with residents’ relatives, as well as with outside organisations and professional colleagues.
  • Undertake general observation and accurate reporting, both verbal and written, of residents’ physical, emotional, social progress or deterioration and assist in the creation of support and improvement plans.
  • Ensure the safe storage, documentation and administration of medication is carried out in accordance with current guidelines and training in line with GDPR
