Primary objective
Contribute to the delivery and development of a range of interventions and assessments with the purpose of reducing youth
offending, supporting wellbeing and ensuring safe return to community. Provide case management/coordination and welfare
responses to enhance opportunities and rehabilitation of youth offenders in facilities and the community. Consult with a
range of stakeholders to enhance culturally appropriate service delivery. Responsible for the provision of peer support,
supervision of case coordinators and mentoring and coaching operational staff.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Facilitate group-based psycho educational and offence focused programs for youth in detention and the community.
2. Conduct general induction and specialist youth justice assessments.
3. Liaise and consult with both internal and external stakeholders on issues relevant to the management of youth offenders
to ensure coordinated case management.
4. Provide high quality reports to the agency as well as external stakeholders such as Courts and Parole Board.
5. Provide oversight and supervision to program facilitators and mentor and coach operational staff in regards to trauma
informed practice, positive behaviour support plans and case work.
6. Apply sound theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the development, delivery and evaluation of programs
and a range of services.
7. Be an active member of a multi-disciplinary team; participate in clinical supervision and ongoing professional development
and training.
8. Be willing and able to travel when required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Degree in Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Social Work or Behavioural Science with relevant high
level experience and full registration and/or accreditation with an appropriate registration board or professional body.
2. Ability to establish and maintain appropriate relationships with youth, their families and community with the ability to
deliver psycho educational and therapeutic group programs.
3. Knowledge of trauma informed practice, risk need responsivity and other relevant theoretical underpinnings relevant to
a youth justice and at-risk population.
4. An understanding of working with high risk and need young people involved in the justice and child protection system.
5. Demonstrated experience in assessing and dealing with complex social and emotional situations within a justice or
welfare environment.
6. Interpersonal skills of a high level with the ability to work effectively within a multi- disciplinary team and demonstrated
ability to supervise and motivate staff in a team environment.
7. Written and verbal communication skills of a high level and ability to influence and persuade others.
8. Experience working with and communicating with Aboriginal people and others from a diverse range of cultural
backgrounds.
Desirable
1. Master’s degree, graduate diploma, or graduate certificate in relevant discipline.
