POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general direction of the Recreation Manager, the Senior Center Supervisor position is responsible for planning, managing, and promoting the quality of life and well-being of senior adults at the Schertz Area Senior Center. Responsible for the day-to-day operations, the accessibility, security, and maintenance of the facility. Exercises direct supervision of assigned staff. Must be able to anticipate center needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines with little supervision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in community services, social services, program development, parks & recreation, or related field.
  • Experience with a Senior Center, or other senior programming facility preferred.
  • Knowledge of municipal government functions and the Schertz community preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Manages and oversees daily operations and services of the Schertz Area Senior Center.
  • Develops, promotes, educates and supports programs, services and activities for senior adults.
    o Solicits partnerships with other agencies or organizations that could offer related services.
    o Drives continuous improvement of programs and services based on current participant and community needs.

o Works with Recreation Specialist in the volunteer coordination process.

  • Oversees and coordinates safety practices of staff and participants including the accessibility to and maintenance of the facility. Ensures all equipment and systems function properly, diagnoses problems, and coordinates repair and maintenance.
  • Manages and participates in development and implementation of the annual operating budget.
  • Ensures services, operations, and activities are compliant with applicable Federal, State, and local regulations. Ensures compliance with requirements associated with contracts and/or grants.
  • Receives and/or conducts investigations of complaints and coordinates resolution.
  • Coordinates and prepares reports and recommendations, composes correspondence, and represents center at meetings. Ensures maintenance and accuracy of facility records.
  • Works with key staff to create, design and edit promotional materials, center forms, flyers, etc. to ensure a consistent city brand.

o Assists with correspondence and information distribution

  • Oversees the coordination of sponsorships

o Develops effective relationships with businesses, community leaders, and key decision-makers to increase revenues and resources.

  • Maintains a current database of vendors, contractors, and other center contacts/resources.
  • Keeps a current inventory of operating supplies, products and display materials.
  • Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints.
  • Responds to telephone inquiries, email inquiries, records messages, transfers calls, keeps calendars and schedules appointments as needed.
