Description

Post: Senior Charge Nurse Band 7, 37 hours, worked Monday to Friday. This post is for the Renal outpatient clinics and peritoneal dialysis training unit based within the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and New Stobhill ACH.
The units at both sites are very friendly and welcoming outpatient areas where staff support patients throughout their renal journey, from end stage kidney disease as they prepare and commence dialysis treatment, work up for transplantation and follow up during the acute immediate post-transplant period. Along with management of the renal outpatient clinics the SCN will command clinical expert knowledge of peritoneal dialysis treatment and is expected to be highly trained in this area of renal nursing.
The Queen Elizabeth University hospital is part of the larger regional renal services, which consist of 6 outpatient haemodialysis units, a community home therapies unit and the main inpatient hub at the QEUH, consisting of 65 inpatient beds and the renal assessment unit.

Essential requirements of the post:

  • 5 years post registration
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Expert nursing knowledge
  • Expert knowledge of peritoneal dialysis treatment
  • Ability to manage the competing demands of the senior charge nurse role

The SCN will is required to work closely with the lead nurse, chief nurses and all members of the multi-disciplinary and senior management team within renal services. This is a key post in delivering our nursing strategies and ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and efficient person centred care. You will be responsible to the Lead Nurse for clinical guidance and professional management. As Senior Charge Nurse you will have 24/7 responsibility for the management and delivery of care assurance standards within their area. As a new band 7 you will be offered the opportunity and support to undertake the NHS GGC clinical leadership programme.
It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the NMC with evidence of continuing professional development and hold a first level nursing degree.
