Avant is Australia’s leading medical defence organisation with a proud heritage of protecting Australian medical professionals for over 130 years.
An opportunity is available for a Senior Claims Manager to join our Sydney team in an 8-month, fixed-term contract on a full-time basis. There is also a potential for permanency in this role.
As the Senior Claims Manager, you will manage your own medical negligence compensation claims portfolio.

Responsibilities

THE KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Manage member claims and investigations in accordance with the relevant Avant claims and investigation protocols and guidelines.

Within legislative and internal policy constraints, facilitate the free flow of information to other Avant departments.

  • Contribute to Avant’s provision of claims services.
  • Positive contribution to national process improvements and change initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to Claims staff in optimising claim outcomes for our members, including detailed knowledge and application of breach, causation and quantum principles.
  • As directed, and in support of Retention & Growth initiatives, educate members, staff and internal and external bodies in medico-legal, clinical risk and claims matters.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Tertiary qualifications in law or Health.
  • 5 plus years’ experience in medical negligence law, either in private practice or in an insurance environment.
  • Senior claims management experience in a medical indemnity environment is favourable although not essential.
  • Advanced understanding of medical indemnity law and insurance principles.
  • Strong financial acumen and the aptitude to drive business goals.
  • Strong people leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated insurance and health law knowledge.
  • Relationship building skills, proactive in developing relationships & understanding customer requirements.
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills.
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills in a legal and/or claims environment.
