To provide, in collaboration with clinical colleagues, a comprehensive cardiothoracic service to patients from Coventry, Warwickshire and beyond. That all patient related activities are provided in an efficient manner and that the principles of risk management and clinical governance are maintained at all times.
Ensure all patients on the ward are seen regularly, deciding on day-to-day clinical management.
Participate in the ITU round ensuring that relevant treatments and investigations are communicated and carried out.
Assist Consultants and Senior Specialist Registrars in the operating theatre and where appropriate, carrying out operations or parts thereof, as primary operator.
Support on call duties during which ward and ITU rounds are carried out and appropriate investigations and treatments completed. The post holder will be resident on call with a Senior House officer support during daytime.

Undertake flexible activities as part of general duties and supporting professional activities.
All cardiac surgical patients are entered onto the PATS system (Patient Analysis and Tracking System). The form will accompany the patient through the care pathway and must be completed and entered through various stages. It is the responsibility of all junior staff to ensure data is entered in a timely and accurate fashion.
To participate in the affairs of the Department of Cardiothoracic Services and the speciality of Cardiology.
To supervise, teach and train junior medical staff, attached nursing staff and medical technical officers.
To participate in a regular programme of clinical audit. To design and implement appropriate audit machinery to assess the provision, uptake and effectiveness of the services.
The post holder will be accountable for improving and complying with infection control practices
