University Hospitals of North Midlands is currently unable to provide sponsorship for Band 2 and Band 3 roles. This is in accordance with UKVI guidelines and legislation, as these roles do not meet the skill nor salary threshold for sponsorship. If you hold a graduate visa, you are welcome to apply for this role however it is important to note that UHNM will be unable to offer sponsorship at the end of your graduate visa, you must also have at least six months until your graduate visa expires at the start of your employment for training and operational reasons.
This role requires the following qualifications and documents to be provided as part of the recruitment and selection process for this role, if you are offered a role and unable to provide these documents, we are afraid the offer will be withdrawn:
GCSE’s or equivalent Certificate for Maths and English, equivalent to current Level 4/ C or level 2 functional skills Maths/English.

Completed Care Certificate
Although it may seem frustrating if you have completed a degree in the UK or other professional qualifications our policy states we must have GCSE’s or equivalent as part of the requirements for this role.
To assist with nursing duties within your own remit, to work alongside the qualified nurse to learn further skills. To lead a small team on health care assistants to gain the same skills. To advocate for the patients group and to escalate concerns to the qualified nurse.
Band 3 Role Specific Clinical Skills
As a Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker you may be required to carry out and perform a range of clinical based skills in conjunction with the above key areas/tasks.
These Skills have been pre-mapped and approved by UHNM for this role and will be supported by completion of a robust UHNM competency package that will be accompanied by education packages delivered by both the Care Coach Team and other UHNM educators across the trust who specialise in the training of these specific skills.

THESE SKILLS INCLUDE:

  • Taking Clinical Observations and Recording on Vitals/Paper
  • Venepuncture
  • Glucose Monitoring
  • Pregnancy Testing
  • Urine Analysis (Strip)
  • Taking Fecal Samples
  • Carry out 12 lead ECG
  • Observing patients for signs of agitation or distress (Clinical holding/Restraint)
  • Wound Observation
  • Simple Wound Dressing
  • Removal of Peripheral Cannula
  • Take Swabs (e.g. MRSA)
  • Support and Assist New Staff- Buddy System/Care Certificate Supervisor (Training available via ESR)

    The primary role of a Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the Registered Nurse and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to person-centred care.     The Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker should actively contribute to the health and well-being of patients, staff and service users and be able to communicate effectively with sensitivity and compassion. They should be able to work independently within their sphere of nursing while under the supervision of registered nurses. Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Workers should demonstrate a level of skill and understanding which enables them to undertake specific skills and tasks delegated by the registered nurse and in accordance with relevant procedures, guidelines and policies at UHNM. They will be required to undertake both routine and specially identified tasks for which they have been trained and assessed as competent
