About the role This is an exciting opportunity to join the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) as a Senior Cloud Engineer within our Enterprise Technology team. You’ll play a key role in building, automating and maintaining secure, reliable, and cost-optimised cloud services that underpin NESA’s business systems and digital platforms. On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for: Building, operating and optimising secure, scalable and cost-effective cloud infrastructure (AWS and Azure) in line with NESA’s architecture, security, and compliance standards. Automating provisioning, configuration management and operational processes to improve efficiency and reliability across environments. Monitoring and managing cloud environments for performance, availability, cost, and compliance, and identifying opportunities for improvement. Maintaining detailed and current documentation on cloud architectures, configurations and operational procedures. Collaborating with engineers, ICT teams, and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to ensure cloud and hybrid environments meet business and technical requirements. Providing technical guidance and sharing knowledge to strengthen cloud engineering capability within the team. Supporting integration with core infrastructure components including Active Directory, Windows/Linux servers, networking, and storage. Our ideal candidate will have: Demonstrated experience managing and supporting enterprise cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure). A strong understanding of cloud security principles, including identity and access management, encryption, and network security, and experience applying these in practice. Experience monitoring and optimising cloud environments to ensure operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Hands-on experience troubleshooting cloud infrastructure incidents and working with vendors/MSPs to resolve issues. Working knowledge of compliance and governance frameworks relevant to cloud environments (e.g. NSW Government Cyber Security Policy, Well-Architected principles). Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills, with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and drive positive change. Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams and external partners. Essential requirements Tertiary qualifications in information technology and/or equivalent industry experience in a related field.
