KBR is seeking a Senior CNC Machinist & Machine Shop Lead with advanced experience in 5-axis milling, CNC turning, and FeatureCAM programming to run the NRL machine shop and lead a team of highly skilled machinists. The ideal candidate will be hands-on with machining operations while managing schedules, budgets, quality, and workflow for mission-critical hardware supporting spaceflight and aerospace programs.

Responsibilities
  • Lead daily operations of the machine shop, including scheduling, work assignments, and quality control.
  • Program, set up, and operate CNC mills (including 5-axis) and CNC lathes to produce high-tolerance aerospace components.
  • Develop complex CNC programs using FeatureCAM and optimize tool paths for efficiency and precision.
  • Select tooling, fixtures, and machining parameters to meet material requirements and dimensional tolerances.
  • Read and interpret aerospace engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T callouts.
  • Inspect hardware using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Troubleshoot machining and programming issues, implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO, AS9100, and aerospace manufacturing standards.
  • Maintain and oversee preventive maintenance schedules for all shop equipment.
  • Mentor and train machinists in advanced CNC programming and machining techniques.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
