If you’re ready to step up and be part of a growing, forward-looking team, we’d love to talk.   Senior Commercial Credit Underwriter JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Commercial Credit Underwriter is responsible for independently underwriting commercial loans, preparing commitment reports, and providing as-needed financial analyses in support of Bank's overall credit quality at all phases of the Bank's more complex loan requests. Serves as an advisor to the bankers on proposed terms and structure in accordance with the bank's credit culture and risk tolerance.   Senior Commercial Credit Underwriter ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (RESPONSIBILITIES): * Reviews financial statements and tax returns, providing credit analysis to assess viability of loan opportunities, including cash flow repayment coverage and spreading financial statements as received. * Prepares fact-based basis and comprehensive credit analysis on commercial loans that facilitates the credit approval process for use by loan officers or committees in the making of lending decisions regarding new, renewal, and extension loans across all levels of complexity. * Responsible for measuring covenant compliance for existing loans, providing ongoing portfolio monitoring support to commercial lending team, including active engagement in loan risk rating determinations. * Analyzes information statements and related material and prepares summaries and presents facts, highlighting potential credit concerns. * Analyzes factors such as income growth, margins, trends, quality of management, market shares, potential risks of industry and collateral appraisals. * Prepares credit and cash flow analyses; submits credit approval documents for decision making as directed by credit approval matrix. * Independently completes annual reviews, modifications, and extensions of existing credit facilities. * Contemplates and recommends appropriate covenants, terms, and structure for a credit request. * Identifies policy exceptions within a credit request and ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. * Participates in customer calls with commercial lenders to assess new business opportunities. * Participates in deal discussion meetings with commercial lending personnel and appropriate credit officers to preliminarily assess merits of a request. * Mentors and coaches Commercial Credit Underwriting team members. * Exercises awareness with regard to possible suspicious activity, money laundering or fraudulent behavior and reports any such incidents to the BSA department. Performs all job functions in compliance with all company policies and federal, state, and local laws and regulations as applicable to the position, including, but not limited to BSA/AML, OFAC and GLBA/privacy rules. * Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned. Qualifications Senior Commercial Credit Underwriter REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:   Knowledge/Skills/Abilities * Advanced knowledge of Commercial Credit Underwriting policies, procedures, and practices. * Excellent communication skills. * Strong organizational and attention to detail skills. * Proficient in MS Office applications. * Ability to interpret legal documents. * Exemplifies the Gateway Values: Stay Growth Oriented, Make a Difference, "Get it Done" Attitude, Be a Team Player, Do the Right Thing.   Equivalent Education/Experience * Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field. * 5 years of experience in Commercial Credit Underwriting. * MBA or CFA charter holder preferred.   Senior Commercial Credit Underwriter SPECIAL JOB DIMENSIONS: None.
