Description

JOB SUMMARY

The DCMS Commercial directorate is a dynamic team with a positive and friendly culture. We prioritise kindness and respect, and we work closely together as a team to embrace change and drive continuous improvement.
DCMS Commercial is unique - we deliver the classic portfolio of ‘commercial’ services such as procurement, contract management and supplier engagement, as well as providing the department with a niche set of services such as negotiating with foreign investors, mergers and acquisitions, policy development and income generation.
We act as strategic delivery partners to the department, and our work secures good value for the taxpayer, drives growth and ensures DCMS remains productive and agile.
Our size means we’re flexible - we all lean-in to support the priorities of the day at the same time as maintaining a brilliant core service to our customers.
We place great emphasis on engaging positively with our colleagues and stakeholders, which we believe creates a great working environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We’re seeking two Senior Commercial Managers to join our team. You’ll be based in either our Manchester or London hub.
You’ll lead a variety of commercial workstreams and projects, putting your service delivery, project management, engagement and data skills to good use. No two days will be the same - you’ll lead the procurement of lower value goods and services and support complex commercial activity. You’ll engage with stakeholders and customers, analyse data and share insight reports with senior leaders, advising the department how they can secure good value and comply with procurement regulations.
You’ll be inquisitive and keen to learn new skills, and in return we can provide you with the learning and development you need to develop your career in commercial and in the Civil Service. You may line manage a small team.
We place great emphasis on individual’s willingness to get involved and work as a team. Commercial is central to the delivery of DCMS objectives, so you’ll be agile and keen to work flexibly to meet the changing priorities of the department with enthusiasm.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience of working in a commercial or procurement setting, or in an equivalent role with similar skill sets. This could include responsibility for buying and selling goods or managing contracts. This could also include financial/funding oversight, relationship management, dispute resolution, risk management or supplier engagement.
  • Strong communication and engagement skills, both written and verbal, with experience of advising senior leaders and managing difficult conversations.
  • A strong team player with the ability to deliver a quality service by leading specific workstreams and projects and by effectively guiding a team.
  • Ability to work at pace and react to changing priorities with positivity and innovation.

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Contract drafting and contract management.
  • Experience of operating in compliance with the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 and/or the Procurement Act 2023.
We are running an information session where prospective applicants can find out more about the role. This will be hosted by Nick Bibby, and will take place on: Wednesday 24th September at 10am
The session will be an opportunity to hear more about the role, the team and wider directorate and the department. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions.
Please register your interest by filling out this Registration form by Tuesday 23rd September at 3pm and you will be sent an invitation.
Please note that the session will not be recorded and will not focus on the DCMS recruitment process - please direct any queries that you have on this topic (timelines, reasonable adjustments, onboarding etc) to recruitment.team@dcms.gov.uk
