The Senior Commercial Underwriter provides analytical support for commercial banking including an independent analysis of the creditworthiness of customers and prospects and ensuring the bank maintains a solid and strong credit culture. Extensive knowledge of banking principles, policies and procedures. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as oral and written communication skills with a high level of attention to detail. Able to organize and present complex situations in a clear concise manner; able to set priorities, multi-task and meet deadlines; team player, positive attitude; maintains and ensures confidentiality.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university
  • 5 - 7 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, required

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Responsible for spreading financial statements, preparing statement analysis and covenant checks in support of the commercial lending function.
  • In addition, the Senior Commercial Underwriter (SCU) will be responsible for preparing comprehensive credit analyses on complex Commercial and Industrial (C&I) and Commercial Real Estate (CRE) loans that facilitates the credit approval process, with very minimal supervision by Underwriting Manager (UWM).
  • Provide high-level analytical support in underwriting and analyzing commercial credit facilities while assisting Portfolio Managers (PMs) and CRMs in managing customer relationships.
  • Be involved in the approval process, identifying and discussing key risks and mitigants of a credit with Commercial Relationship Managers (CRMs) and Senior Credit Officers (SCOs).
  • UWM to provide production goals based upon needed level of supervision and complexity of deal flow.
  • Complete and approve covenant checks per Bank policy.
  • Complete and approve annual reviews per Bank policy.
  • Participation in transaction structuring and relationship strategy meetings with management, as needed, to justify and explain information in the analysis when warranted.
  • Assist CRM in presenting credit packages for approval to Officers Loan Committee, as needed.
  • Other special projects, as needed.

Although no direct supervision of employees is required, the individual will be an experienced member of the team and will be expected to provide training, coaching and mentoring to the less experienced members of the team (i.e., CUW-1).
