Stok is seeking a Sr Commissioning Project Manager to join our Commissioning Team. As a consultant at Stok, you will work with some of the world’s most innovative companies, including those influencing iconic real estate programs and projects for positive impact. We are looking for candidates with a wide breadth of technical knowledge, a passion for decarbonization and sustainability, and an appetite for helping our team constantly improve. In this role, you will be responsible for leading Commissioning alongside our close-knit team of engineers. Together we will deliver high-performance real estate in pursuit of Stok’s purpose: to boldly catalyze an environmentally restorative and socially equitable world.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5–10 years of technical experience in building commissioning, MEP design, energy consulting, or related fields, with a minimum of 3 years in a project management role.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the full lifecycle of commissioning projects independently, including scoping, budgeting, scheduling, and client engagement.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems in commercial buildings; able to interpret and apply construction documents and specifications.
  • Familiarity with commissioning best practices and standards (ASHRAE, LEED, CALGreen, Title 24).
  • Experience coordinating across multiple disciplines and working with diverse teams, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy Engineering (or similar technical discipline).
  • CxA and PE preferred; other relevant credentials (e.g., BCxP, LEED AP) are also valued.
  • Skilled in financial oversight of projects, including forecasting, earned revenue tracking, and risk management.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, especially in client-facing and team leadership settings.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE WE’D BE EXCITED FOR YOU TO BRING (NOT REQUIRED, BUT A BONUS TO OUR TEAM AND OUR CLIENTS):

  • Experience leading commissioning for large, mission-critical, or all-electric buildings.
  • Familiarity with commissioning analytics tools or continuous monitoring platforms (e.g., SkySpark, Fault Detection Diagnostics).
  • Prior experience developing team capability or mentoring junior engineers and project managers.
  • Understanding of the commissioning business model within broader financial and strategic contexts (e.g., business case development, client ROI).
  • Experience working in socially responsible or values-driven firms (e.g., B Corp, ILFI Just, employee-owned).

Responsibilities

ROLE DESCRIPTION

  • Lead and manage the full lifecycle of commissioning projects, from scoping to closeout, including 75%+ direct project work and oversight of annual revenue portfolios of $250K+.
  • Scope and plan small to mid-size projects independently, developing detailed estimates, budgets, timelines, and deliverables in collaboration with internal and external teams.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, building trust through transparency, reliability, and proactive communication.
  • Translate strategic client goals into tactical project execution, navigating between big-picture outcomes and technical details.
  • Direct and support cross-disciplinary teams of professionals, coordinating closely with project coordinators and engineers while fostering development and accountability.
  • Navigate and lead diverse and complex engagements, including multi-stakeholder or geographically distributed teams.
  • Identify and pursue adjacent or vertically integrated opportunities that enhance client value and deepen partnerships.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate project-related contracts and documentation in collaboration with design and construction teams.
  • Monitor and manage financial health across projects, including earned revenue, forecasting, and risk mitigation.
  • Champion quality, ethics, and professionalism in every aspect of delivery, upholding Stok’s purpose and client promise.
