TITLE: Senior Commodity Trading Analyst – Market Risk & Product Control
CLIENT: Global Energy Company
LOCATION: Houston, TX (Fully Onsite – 5 days per week)
TYPE: 1 year contract with possible extension or conversion to salary
RATE: 65-75/hr payrate, full time.
URGENCY: Actively interviewing with immediate start preferred

SUMMARY:

The Senior Commodity Trading Analyst will join the Global Product Control team and play a key role in delivering accurate reporting of daily profit and loss (P&L) and exposure across global physical and financial commodity portfolios. This position requires strong technical expertise in commodity markets, risk methodologies, and financial governance, combined with a proactive approach to process improvement and cross-functional collaboration.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in market risk within a commodity or energy trading environment.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ETRM systems (SAP, Openlink, Endur, Allegro, or FIS).
  • Familiarity with Power BI; Python or SQL is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of commodity markets, trade lifecycle, settlement processes, and valuation methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Preferred: Professional certifications such as CFA, CPA, FRM, or ERP; experience with cross-commodity or global portfolios.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field.

DESIRED SKILLS / NOTES:

  • Fully onsite (5 days per week)
  • Front & Mid-Office Commodity experience required (not seeking back-office experience)
  • Prior Commodity Trading and/or Trading Floor experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities
  • Generate and validate daily P&L and exposure reports across multiple commodities including crude oil, gasoline, distillates, fuel oil, renewables, NGLs, natural gas, and power.
  • Analyze and explain daily P&L movements, identifying key risk drivers and market impacts.
  • Ensure accurate trade capture and representation in risk systems by collaborating with front office and operations to resolve discrepancies.
  • Validate market curves and pricing inputs to ensure consistency and accuracy in valuation.
  • Partner with trading, scheduling, accounting, and risk teams to support timely reporting and issue resolution.
  • Lead and support initiatives to standardize and automate reporting processes; contribute to system enhancements and dashboard development.
  • Support compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements while maintaining strong control frameworks.
  • Provide coverage across regions/products as needed and mentor junior analysts.
  • Collaborate with FP&A to ensure mark-to-market P&L aligns with GAAP standards for external reporting.
