The
Senior Complex Fraud Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the complex fraud team with performing bad debt analysis to protect Optus revenue and minimise risk. Reporting to the Associate Director of Fraud Risk, this role is responsible for gathering and analysing confidential information to develop actionable intelligence for internal stakeholders and law enforcement. It also involves conducting fraud risk assessments and being the Fraud SME on projects.
As a senior member of the team, the role requires deep expertise across Optus systems and processes, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with various business units to drive outcomes. The analyst will work closely with senior management to strengthen the internal fraud risk control environment by developing and maintaining controls, standards, and programs across Optus’ business units and product lines.
What you’ll be doing
Lead analysis across external fraud streams, determine root causes, and drive corrective action plans in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Act as a subject matter expert on telecommunications networks and Optus systems (including billing, provisioning, customer management, and network processes).
Develop and implement fraud prevention strategies, stay abreast of emerging risks, and lead the resolution of audit and fraud-related issues.
Provide expert fraud risk advice to business units and project teams, supporting ongoing risk assessments and the development of tailored fraud risk solutions.
Foster cross-functional collaboration, serve as the fraud lead for key projects, and manage competing priorities with strong leadership and task management skills.
What makes you perfect for the role
Extensive fraud expertise, with 10+ years in analyst roles, with strong knowledge of criminal/civil law, and experience in fraud, credit, preferable within the telco industry.
Strong analytical and technical capability, including the ability to interrogate complex data sets and use tools such as Analyst Notebook, Alteryx, R, Python, and SQL.
Background in Accounting, Commerce, Business, or Information Systems, combined with strong commercial acumen and business insight.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to present complex findings clearly to all levels and influence outcomes.
Highly organised and adaptable, able to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines under pressure, and drive fraud risk innovation independently.
Collaborative working style, with a team-oriented mindset, strong project management skills, and a customer-focused approach to problem-solving.
