For our business, for clients, and for you Description This role supports the Head of Compliance and DPO for Japan and is part of the Compliance function in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, based at the Apex Dalian office. The primary responsibility is to assist in ensuring that all activities conducted by Apex Japan adhere to local regulatory and statutory requirements, as well as Apex Group’s policies. The Senior/Compliance Officer will contribute to the implementation of compliance procedures, conduct monitoring and testing of business operations, prepare compliance reports, and foster compliance awareness throughout the organization in alignment with Apex’s standards. Additionally, there will be opportunities to assist the Regional Compliance Team in APAC with broader compliance initiatives. Job specification Responsibilities include, but are not limited to performing and coordinating a variety of compliance duties and tasks including: Local Tasks: Assist in ensuring that Apex Japan practices are fully compliant with relevant laws and regulations. Support the Head of Compliance as a liaison with local regulatory bodies and financial intelligence units. Assist with managing regulatory risks, including AML and terrorist financing. Provide advice on AML due diligence, PEP, and sanction checks for client and investor files and related matters. Conduct local regulatory analysis and assist with assessing the impact of legislative and regulatory changes on Apex Japan’s practices. Assist with regular review and updates to the Apex Japan Compliance Monitoring Programme and controls to ensure alignment with statutory and regulatory obligations. Support the implementation and follow-up of recommendations made by internal/external audits and regulators concerning compliance risks and remediation. Provide support for Data Protection and AML tasks as required. Ensure adequate compliance awareness and training, in line with Apex Group and local legal and regulatory requirements. Prepare compliance reports for the Board and Group Compliance as appropriate. Attend other tasks as assigned. Regional Tasks: Assist in implementing and enforcing the Apex Global Compliance framework in APAC, working with stakeholders regionally and globally on matters relating to Japan. Support alignment of Compliance practices with current and newly acquired entities. Skills Required: 5+ years of solid experience in Compliance, preferably with reference to Apex Japan’s businesses. Recognized Compliance, Legal, Governance, or Risk qualification (or equivalent) is preferred. Fluency in both written and spoken English and Japanese is essential, with strong communication skills in both languages. This role involves daily communication with Japanese and English speakers and understanding local business and multinational cultures will be a key success factor. Excellent communication skills to effectively engage and establish relationships internally and externally with stakeholders. Strong understanding of financial services regulation and AML guidelines, preferably relevant to Apex’s businesses. Reliable, adaptable, motivated, and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Proactive achiever who can drive results. Organized and self-disciplined, with excellent problem-solving skills. Able to think creatively for both routine and non-routine tasks. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, while also able to guide and support junior team members.
