Primary objective
Undertake regulatory and compliance activities, including investigations, surveillance and operations across a range of legislative
frameworks administered by the agency, particularly in the Liquor portfolio in the Alice Springs and Central Australian region.
Adopt a solution focused approach and undertake community and industry education and awareness as required.
Context statement
In February 2023, the new interim alcohol protected area (APA) opt-out model came into effect. The model applies to all NT
communities previously subject to alcohol restrictions under the Commonwealth’s Stronger Futures legislation.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist in the administration of regulatory, compliance and enforcement programs aimed at harm minimisation across a broad
range of legislative frameworks, and in conjunction with relevant stakeholders.
2. Collaborate with NT Police, Department of Health and other stakeholders to undertake operations and circulate educational
resources.
3. Work with Communities to develop Community Alcohol Plans and Alcohol Management Plans.
4. Administer and provide advice on relevant legislation, and exercise statutory responsibilities as required.
5. Undertake regulatory and compliance activities, audits, investigations and prosecutions as required.
6. Liaise with industry, stakeholders and the community to reduce alcohol and gambling related harm.
7. Prepare correspondence and reports, in relation to areas of responsibilities.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Previous knowledge and experience interpreting and applying legislative frameworks, policies and procedures and exercising
statutory responsibilities as delegated.
2. Demonstrated sound analytical judgement, problem solving, and high-level investigation and research skills.
3. Demonstrated sound oral communication and interpersonal skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills, and the
ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
4. Written communication skills, facilitating concise and thorough reports, including briefs of evidence, correspondence and
ministerial briefs.
5. Demonstrated ability to operate as an effective team member, as well as independently, and to work under pressure, make
sound judgements and prioritise workloads in a busy environment.
6. Capacity to participate in regulatory exercises involving late night and/or remote locations and to work after-hours, at night
and on weekends and remotely throughout the NT.
7. Current NT Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
Desirable
1. Demonstrated understanding of relevant national and local industry issues and regulatory initiatives.
2. Completion of Certificate IV or Diploma in Government (Investigations) or equivalent or the ability to obtain.

environments where smoking is permitted and with high noise levels. The successful applicant may be required to travel to
remote areas by 4x4 vehicle or by small aircraft
