Mental Health, Justice Health, Drug and Alcohol Services are seeking multiple experienced and values driven Senior Consumer Peer Worker to play a key leadership role in strengthening peer work practice across our mental health services. These positions are ideal for people who bring not only personal life changing lived experience of mental health challenges, service use and recovery, but also advanced peer work capability, collective advocacy insight, and a commitment to shaping recovery oriented, person-centred service delivery. About the Role The Senior Consumer Peer Worker provides non-clinical, recovery-oriented support for people accessing MHJHADS services. Grounded in peer work principles - hope, mutuality, self-determination, choice, alongside intentional sharing of lived experience - the role combines direct peer support with leadership in workforce and service development. You will draw on your lived experience expertise and leadership, consumer advocacy and understanding of the mental health system to enhance service experiences and engagement, reduce stigma, and strengthen the voice of lived experience within the mental health system. Some key responsibilities include providing direct peer support by purposefully sharing your lived experience, promoting hope, supporting recovery goals, providing guidance, mentoring, and supervision/co-reflection to build confidence, identify appropriate boundaries, reflect on power dynamics, and ensure fidelity and integrity to Lived Experience work, use lived experience knowledge and frameworks to inform service design, policy input, and quality improvement initiatives. We are looking for someone who can bring advanced Lived Experience expertise, including understanding of personal and collective consumer perspectives, you demonstrate leadership capability through mentoring, co-reflection, and providing guidance to Peer Workers, you communicate effectively, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, maintain strong professional boundaries, and engage in reflective practice to support your own wellbeing and the growth of the peer workforce.
