Description
Controller Job Description EarthDaily Federal Location: United States (Remote with occasional travel to client sites) Clearance: Active TS/SCI clearance preferred; must be clearable if not currently held Overview EarthDaily Federal, a division of EarthDaily Analytics, delivers high-resolution satellite and geospatial data to support U.S. government missions across defense, intelligence, and environmental operations. As a Series B+ growth-stage company, we are rebuilding our financial infrastructure to match the complexity of our government contracts. We are seeking a hands-on, proactive Controller who thrives in transformation, someone eager to tear down and rebuild systems, processes, and compliance structures from the inside out. This role is not about maintaining the status quo; it’s about owning the entire accounting function, fixing what’s broken, and leading the company to a high-functioning, DCAA-compliant future. If your idea of fun is diving into messy systems, driving process efficiencies, and cutting the month-end close from 14 days to 3 or less, we want to talk. What You’ll Do ● Take full ownership of all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting using Sage Intacct, Ramp, and Bill.com. ● Lead the complete rebuild of our chart of accounts to ensure FAR/DCAA compliance, aligning our systems, reporting, and structures with GovCon best practices. ● Redesign and streamline processes to accelerate month-end close to 3 days or fewer, building automation, controls, and repeatability. ● Act as the change agent driving integration across accounting, contracts, and operations, seeing around corners and solving issues before they surface. ● Establish internal controls, policies, and audit-ready documentation that enable compliance and scalability. ● Partner with leadership to translate financial data into actionable insights; proactively identify risks, cost opportunities, and process gaps. ● Oversee audit preparation, indirect rate development, and financial reporting for contracts and task orders. ● Mentor and guide a small finance team, fostering independence, accountability, and operational excellence. ● Support investor and board reporting with forward-looking financial models and clean, accurate data. What You Bring ● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred. ● 7+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, including GovCon, FAR/DCAA, or audit exposure. ● Proven success building and restructuring accounting systems from the ground up, ideally in a company that scaled rapidly or underwent compliance transformation. ● Deep familiarity with Intacct (or equivalent ERP) and SaaS-based financial automation tools. ● Passion for process optimization and a bias toward action, you don’t wait for direction; you propose solutions. ● A data-driven mindset with the independence and confidence to make things better without being managed closely. ● Ability to thrive in a lean, agile environment where proactive ownership is expected. Preferred Experience ● Prior experience with satellite, aerospace, or geospatial industries. ● SBIR/STTR funding familiarity or cost accounting in federal contracts. ● Strong audit and compliance background supporting DCAA or DCMA reviews. Our Culture We’re a mission-driven, remote-first team combining startup speed with national security purpose. We celebrate ownership and accountability, the right hire for this role wakes up each morning excited to fix systems, design better processes, and deliver results before anyone has to ask. Culture fit here means independent, proactive, and results-oriented, someone who loves closing loops, not waiting for reminders. Compensation ● Salary range: $135,000 – $185,000, commensurate with experience. ● Comprehensive benefits package including healthcare, retirement plans, and performance bonuses. ● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
