Save the Children expects that anyone associated with it abides by its Safeguarding and other Zero Tolerance Policies.    This role will strategically lead Save the Children Nepal’s digital presence, ensuring all social media content aligns with branding and visibility guidelines, contributes to thematic thought leadership, and positions the organization as a credible voice on child rights and humanitarian action. As the focal point for humanitarian communications, the position holder will coordinate with program and humanitarian teams to set the direction for, and deliver, impactful representation of the organization’s humanitarian efforts through compelling storytelling, high-quality content, and documentation of best practices. This includes leading Risk Communications and Community Engagement (RCCE) actions to ensure community- and child-led messaging that strengthens knowledge, attitudes, practices, and skills (KAPS) in life-saving humanitarian contexts. In addition, the role will anchor and facilitate child- and youth-led campaigns, providing strategic support, mentorship, and creative direction to young campaigners in designing, implementing, and evaluating advocacy initiatives. The position holder will also guide field office communications focal points and partners to produce high-quality stories, videos, and photographs that are effectively used across multiple channels. This role will work closely with thematic advisors, project managers, and field-level communications focal points to ensure a cohesive, impactful communications approach that maximizes visibility across multiple entry points.   Supports Save the Children’s dual mandate of development programmes as well as being the leader in emergency preparedness and response for children.  KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:  Communications * Capture and showcase Save the Children’s impact through human-centered, child-focused stories, blogs, and briefs tailored to diverse audiences. * Support field teams in story collection, conducting child interviews, and presenting change ethically and meaningfully. * Provide technical guidance and capacity-building for field communications focal points, including delivering learning sessions for skills transfer. * Coordinate the onboarding and recruitment of consultants and short-term staff for creative content production. * Ensure all stories undergo the required clearance process, including signoffs and consent forms, and are featured on internal communication platforms. * Champion child safeguarding and ethical storytelling, ensuring that all communications uphold children’s rights, dignity, and safety. * In coordination with procurement teams in both Kathmandu and field offices, maintain a repository of trusted communications and media consultants to provide immediate support during critical development and humanitarian work. * Oversee reporting timelines in collaboration with the Awards team, ensuring timely submission of high-quality photos, stories, and communications assets in coordination with respective project leads, communications and advocacy field focal points. * Under the guidance of the Communications and Campaigns Manager facilitate or lead the planning of high-level media or donor visits, ensuring strategic communications that advance the visit’s objectives, including curating stories and social media posts for pre-positioning and visibility. Digital Media:  * Develop and implement a forward-looking digital media strategy to increase visibility, reach, and engagement. * Lead a content calendar integrating key themes, advocacy moments, and events across Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and other platforms. * Gather, curate, and disseminate high-impact visual and written content in collaboration with field and country office teams. * Maintain a digital asset repository and produce videos and photo stories for public engagement. * Regularly update the Save the Children Nepal website to reflect quality program, advocacy, and partnership work. * Use digital analytics to track performance, generate insights, and inform digital strategy. * Provide creative direction on design and branding for all external-facing communications to vendors and consultants. Humanitarian Communications:  * Serve as a strategic focal point for humanitarian communications, working with humanitarian teams to package impactful narratives on response, preparedness, and resilience. * Produce situation reports, updates, and success stories in collaboration with the Humanitarian Manager and the technical teams. * Build the capacity of staff and partners on humanitarian/crisis communications for emergency response * With guidance from the PDQI Director, ensure timely and coordinated media responses during humanitarian emergencies, and support with media prepositioning, especially press releases, media top-lines, and facilitate in house spokes-person trainings and identification.    Child led and informed Campaigns:  * With guidance from the Communications and Campaigns Manager implement a campaign strategy aligned with the Country Strategic Plan (CSP), ensuring meaningful child participation * Train and mentor child and youth groups to design and deliver advocacy campaigns. * Lead flagship campaigns (SHIFT, Generation Hope) and produce resources such as How-To guides for child rights campaigning. * Document campaign success stories and best practices to strengthen thought leadership regionally and globally in coordination with the Communications and Campaigns Manager diffuse best practices, and learnings. * In coordination with Communications and Campaigns Manager, and respective field office communications focal point, build and maintain relationships with journalists, media outlets, and digital influencers to increase external coverage of Save the Children’s work. Risk Communications & Community Engagement (RCCE) * Represent Save the Children in RCCE working groups with UN agencies and government counterparts, in coordination with Thematic Advisors and under the guidance of the PDQI Director. * Develop and adapt child-focused RCCE messages, field-test them, and secure necessary technical clearances. * Support field staff and partners in designing RCCE strategies and tools that promote life-saving practices. * Deliver RCCE training for staff and partners, and design, standardize, and disseminate Save the Children RCCE templates and approaches. Qualifications and Experience: ESSENTIAL:  * Master’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Development, or related field with 4 years of relevant experience OR bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Development, or related field with 6 years of relevant experience * At least 4 years’ experience in strategic communications, digital engagement, or campaigns in the development/humanitarian sector. * Proven ability to design and execute complex communications strategies. * Experience in humanitarian/crisis communications and digital content strategy. * Strong skills in storytelling, multimedia content production, and social media analytics. * Track record of youth engagement, campaign development, and movement building.
