We are currently looking for a Senior Corporate Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting Team on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Accounting, the Senior Corporate Accountant will be responsible for accounting and financial reporting duties including, but not limited to:

  • Oversight of the monthly close process for certain Emera corporate entities;
  • Preparing and/or reviewing monthly journal entries and general ledger monitoring, detailed account reconciliations and analysis;
  • Reviewing financial statements on a monthly basis;
  • Assisting with preparation of semi-annual forecasts, annual budget and annual long-term forecast;
  • Determining appropriate accounting treatments;
  • Assisting internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits;
  • Responsibility for internal control over financial reporting in accordance with Emera’s SOX program;
  • Contributing to other reoccurring and ad hoc accounting and reporting preparation and review for Emera;
  • Collaborating with other Emera departments to provide financial information; and
  • Preparing other ad hoc analysis and reports as required.

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Commerce with 4+ years of related work experience and have completed or working toward an accounting designation (CPA, or its predecessor CA, CMA or CGA);
  • Experience with financial reporting systems and Excel;
  • Knowledge of the gas and utility industry would be considered an asset but is not required;
  • Detail oriented and possesses strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven, team-focused environment, with the ability to handle multiple deliverables and work independently under tight deadlines;
  • Have a solid business acumen, is customer focused and innovative, with the ability to identify and implement improved processes.
