This is a senior role in a growing integrity business, and we are selective about who fills it. DeTECHT is TECHT’s asset integrity business unit. We inspect and assess storage tanks, pressure equipment and piping, pipelines, steel structures and materials handling plant, mostly for mining and heavy industry clients across Western Australia, and we tell those clients plainly what condition their assets are in and what to do about it.
You will be based in our Bentley office and spend roughly a third to a half of your time on client sites, typically in trips of three to ten days. On site you lead the inspection. In the office you own the assessment, the report, the recommendations and the client conversation that follows. You will scope and quote your own work, keep the clients you serve, and run a small team as the department grows.
We are looking for an A player: someone with a track record in inspecting and assessing industrial assets, a clear understanding of integrity management or equipment reliability, and the autonomy to run a job from enquiry to close-out without being managed through it. You arrive at problems with solutions, not just observations. You are comfortable in front of clients, and you are the person they call back. A working understanding of corrosion and corrosion mechanisms is preferred but not mandatory; judgement, ownership and client focus are the things we cannot teach quickly. This role is not for someone who wants to be told what to do each morning.
Where it leads. The role has a defined pathway to Principal Engineer or DeTECHT department lead as the unit grows. You will work directly with the Principal Engineer to build it, and your ideas about how we inspect, assess and report will shape how the department operates.
Please note: This position is open exclusively to Australian residents with the right to work in Australia. TECHT is unable to sponsor visas or consider overseas applications at this time.
Senior Corrosion Engineer | Consultant Responsibilities Include:
- Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians as the division grows.
- Plan, lead and carry out in-service inspections and condition assessments of storage tanks, pressure equipment and piping, pipelines, steel structures and materials handling plant, mainly on mining and heavy industry sites.
- Assess findings against the applicable codes (API 653, API 510 and 570, AS/NZS 3788, AS 1940, AS 4100 and similar) and determine fitness for service, remaining life and re-inspection intervals.
- Develop and maintain integrity management and inspection programs for client assets, including risk-based inspection where it adds value.
- Prepare inspection reports, condition assessments, scopes of work and repair specifications that a client can act on without a second explanation.
- Recommend practical corrective actions and, where engaged, supervise and provide QA/QC during repairs.
- Own the client relationship on the jobs you run: front-end enquiry, site meetings, presenting findings, and the follow-up that converts into repeat business.
- Prepare quotations and proposals, scope and price work, and manage jobs to budget and schedule.
- Run a small team of engineers, inspectors and technicians on site and in the office, and mentor junior staff as the department grows.
- Identify where a client’s problem can be solved better, faster or more safely, and bring that solution to the client and to TECHT.
- Contribute to DeTECHT’s inspection procedures, report standards and new service development.
- Liaise with clients, contractors and TECHT’s other business units.
- Plan and lead site work safely in line with TECHT’s HSEQ system, including confined space entry and working at heights.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, materials, civil, chemical or a related engineering discipline; or an experienced inspector pathway with substantial in-service inspection experience and API or AS in-service inspector certification.
- At least five years’ experience in the resource sector in inspection, asset integrity or equipment reliability and/or maintenance roles.
- Proven success working with all levels of management, from site maintenance crews to asset managers.
- Experience in mining, with an understanding of mining assets and process flows, is preferred but not essential.
- Chartered Engineering status (CPEng) or registration as a professional engineer in WA is preferred.
- Experience in NDE methods is preferred, particularly UT Level 2 and PAUT.
Certifications and Tickets (all preferred, none mandatory)
- API 653, API 510 or API 570 in-service inspector certification.
- Coatings inspector certification (AMPP/NACE CIP or ACA).
- NDT qualifications (AINDT or PCN) in ultrasonic, magnetic particle, penetrant testing and PAUT Level 2.
- Site access tickets: White Card, confined space entry, working at heights and rope access.
Requirements
- Experience planning and executing site inspection work, including stakeholder engagement, permits and shutdown integration.
- A working understanding of corrosion and corrosion mechanisms as they affect asset integrity is preferred but not mandatory.
- Effective communicator with strong technical writing and reporting skills. Client-facing and comfortable presenting findings to asset owners.
- Hands-on inspection and assessment experience across industrial assets: storage tanks,
