As a fast-growing business, we are looking to expand our team with suitably qualified and experienced Senior Cost Accountant looking for an opportunity to become part of our company and all it has to offer. Job Purpose The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for leading the organisation’s cost accounting function to ensure accurate product costing, robust financial insights, and effective cost control. This role supports strategic decision-making by analysing manufacturing and operational costs, maintaining product and formulation master data, preparing detailed cost and profitability reports, and developing forecasts that guide production planning and raw material requirements. The Senior Cost Accountant will work closely with cross-functional teams to optimise product margins, drive cost efficiencies, and ensure alignment between sales forecasts, production plans, and actual performance. Main Responsibilities Develop and maintain the cost accounting system, documents, and records of the organization. Analyse and recommend product costs and cost savings. Prepare and complete internal cost audits. Analyse the data collected and log a detailed record of the results. Analyse any changes in goods or services provided in order to determine what effect it has on the cost. Analyse manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs. Make estimates of new and proposed product costs. Provide management with reports that specify and compare factors that affect prices and profitability of products or services. Assist in audits and general ledger preparation. Conduct physical inventories and monitor the cycle count program. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and pricing strategies for product lines. Consolidate sales forecasts from different business units Incorporate sales forecasts into production plan to determine raw material demands Measure and report on actual sales and production figures compared to forecasts and revise production plans Communicate any discrepancies between forecasts and actuals with relevant parts of the business to take necessary action Minimum Requirements BCom Accounting degree, Honours will be an advantage. 5-year experience as a Cost Accountant Must have previous experience in the agricultural sector, specifically in costing of agricultural products (fertilizers, seeds, chemicals, or crop inputs), is required. Computer literate (Excel - Advance) Own transport Must be able to function under pressure and to function independently Have a strong sense of responsibility Skills and Capabilities Knowledge of cost-efficient operations in an organisation Excellent presentation skills and report-writing skills Ability to work individually and as part of a team Excellent Communication and IT skills Strong Excel skills Solid cost systems background Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills Meticulous attention to detail with superb organizational skills Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
