Description
Description ABOUT STELLA & CHEWY'S At Stella & Chewy's, we believe pets deserve food as close to nature as possible — and that belief drives everything we do. From raw frozen dinners to freeze-dried treats, our products are crafted with purpose and made with real ingredients pets love. We're a mission-driven company with big growth ambitions, and we're building the team that will take us there. THE OPPORTUNITY As Senior Cost Accountant, you'll be a core financial partner to our manufacturing operations and innovation teams — owning the numbers that shape how we build, price, and grow. This is a high-visibility individual contributor role sitting within the finance organization, reporting directly to the Senior Director of FP&A. You'll drive cost accuracy across our business, lead our annual standard cost roll, and work cross-functionally to evaluate the financial viability of new products before they ever hit a shelf. WHERE YOU'LL SPEND YOUR TIME 40% Core cost accounting & close 25% New product costing & NPD support 20% Financial analysis & business partnership 15% Process improvement & systems WHAT YOU'LL OWN Cost Accounting & Financial Oversight Own core cost accounting processes to ensure accurate, timely reporting of production and inventory costs across all manufacturing locations. Analyze manufacturing costs, variances, and performance trends — identifying opportunities for cost optimization and process improvement. Lead the annual standard cost roll process across all product categories. Prepare and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reporting packages to operations and business leadership. Own month-end and year-end close activities related to inventory, costing, and manufacturing financials. New Product Development & Product Costing Partner closely with Product Development, Operations, Procurement, and Supply Chain to evaluate the cost implications of new product concepts and reformulations. Build detailed cost models for new product prototypes — covering raw materials, labor, packaging, and overhead. Provide financial modeling to support pricing strategies, margin expectations, and commercialization decisions for new launches. Collaborate cross-functionally to establish target costing objectives and profitability goals for innovation initiatives. Financial Analysis & Business Partnership Build financial models and scenario analyses to assess the impact of cost-related decisions and operational changes. Generate ad hoc analysis and reporting to support strategic initiatives, budgeting, forecasting, and leadership decision-making. Present findings and recommendations to finance and operational leadership in a clear, direct, and actionable way. Translate financial data into operational insights that manufacturing and cross-functional partners can actually use. Process Improvement & Systems Continuously evaluate and improve costing methodologies, reporting workflows, and financial systems for accuracy and scalability. Drive best practices in cost accounting, inventory management, and product costing across the organization. Lead initiatives focused on process automation and operational efficiency within finance and manufacturing. Partner on ERP enhancements related to costing and inventory management. Requirements WHAT YOU BRING Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 5+ years of progressive cost accounting experience, ideally in manufacturing, consumer packaged goods, or food production. Solid grounding in cost accounting principles, inventory management, and manufacturing operations. Advanced financial modeling and analytical skills — you're comfortable building from scratch, not just maintaining what exists. A natural communicator who can translate complex financial data for both finance and non-finance audiences. Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-moving environment. Strong cross-functional instincts — you build relationships, earn trust, and influence decisions across departments. Experience with ERP systems; familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a plus. WHY STELLA & CHEWY'S We're a growing company with a clear mission, an expanding product portfolio, and a team that genuinely cares about the work. This role puts you at the intersection of finance and innovation — with real visibility, real ownership, and real impact on how we grow. If you're motivated by more than just closing the books, this is the role for you.
