The Senior Cost Analyst is responsible for tracking, analyzing, and controlling costs related to company manufacturing operations. Which includes maintaining standard costs, preparing cost reports such as a gross profit report, analyzing variances, and a full understanding of inventory flow through an ERP system. They work with operations to improve efficiency, support new product costing and "make vs. buy" decisions, and assist with budgeting and forecasting. This role requires strong analytical skills and often involves collaborating cross-functionally to drive cost reduction and profitability improvements. Requirements Safety Work Environment The employee will work in an office environment with a business casual dress code. Physical Demands The employee will occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, regularly stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee will be required to talk and hear. Must possess good physical dexterity and be able to perform manual tasks and body movement. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; ability to adjust visual focus. The employee may be required to lift up to 20 pounds. This job requires an extensive amount of typing and use of hands. Duties and Responsibilities Standard Cost Management - Maintain and update standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead with in the ERP system. Cost Analysis - Analyze cost variances by comparing actual costs to standard costs, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions. Using trend data to analyze costs across all product lines. Reporting - Prepare detailed cost reports and financial analysis for management, highlighting trends and key performance indicators. Inventory Control - Review & reconcile inventory transactions, monitor inventory reserves, and support cycle counting and physical inventory processes. New Product & Project Support - Provide cost analysis for new product development, pricing impact, and "make vs. buy" evaluations. Estimate costs for new projects and prepare quotations. Budgeting and Forecasting - Assist in the annual budgeting process and contribute to periodic forecasting and long-range planning. Planning of overhead rates. Process Improvement - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve costing processes, data accuracy, and operational efficiency. Auditing and Compliance - Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with policies and accounting standards. Skills and Competencies Experience with variance analysis, margin analysis, and cost allocation. Familiarity with process improvements and cost-saving initiatives. Strong attention to detail and ability to present financial data to non-finance stakeholders. Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory management. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Knowledge and Education Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required. CPA or CMA preferred. 5-10 years of experience in cost accounting in a manufacturing environment. Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
