Role Overview: The Senior Data Cabling Engineer will play a crucial role in the installation, termination, and fault finding of data cabling across various sites in Southampton. This position involves supervising a team of data engineers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality work, and maintaining excellent customer service standards. The Senior Data Cabling Engineer will collaborate closely with Project Managers, delivering toolbox talks, conducting point-of-work risk assessments, and managing day-to-day operations on-site.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Proven experience in data cabling installation and termination, particularly with CAT6/CAT6a and fibre optic cables.
  • Strong fault-finding skills and proactive problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in supervising and managing teams on-site.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient in conducting risk assessments and toolbox talks.
  • Knowledge of containment installation techniques.
Responsibilities
  • Installation & Termination:
  • Perform cable pulling, laying, and associated testing for both copper and fibre optic cabling, including fault finding and proactive resolution.
  • Install, test, and terminate CAT6/CAT6a copper and fibre optic cabling, wireless access points, and associated containment.
  • Project Collaboration:
  • Work alongside Project Managers to ensure adherence to project deadlines.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings to translate into practical work.
  • Report progress, site delays, and issues to the Project Manager.
  • Team Supervision:
  • Supervise data engineers on-site, ensuring high-quality work and adherence to safety standards.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and point-of-work risk assessments to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
  • Attend site briefings and relay key information and messages to the team.
  • Containment Installation:
  • Install containment systems including steel wire cable basket, metal conduit, plastic conduit, and plastic trunking.
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure all works are carried out according to job sheet specifications and company expectations.
  • Adaptability:
  • Adapt to additional duties as required, within the individual’s capabilities and consistent with the role’s responsibilities.
