We have the opportunity for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our Financial Crime domain within BNZ Technology. Mō te Tūranga | About the Role We sat down with our Engineering Lead, and they let us know the following about the role. What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this role will complete? Lead the team in design review, peer review deployment of robust data pipelines for efficient data processing and integration. Utilize SQL, Python, Snowflake, and cloud platforms to optimize data workflows and storage strategies. Review the implementation of data pipelines using Airflow and Jenkins, ensuring reliability and scalability. Analyse complex datasets to support business intelligence, reporting, and predictive analytics. Work closely with external vendors to align data engineering solutions with project goals and ensure seamless integration. What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity? You will be building and maintaining data applications in the financial crime domain. That means your work will directly help keep everyday kiwis safe and keep the bank compliant with regulations. You will also be the technical lead within the team to help with code reviews and best practices. What do we want you to know before you apply? The majority of the team is based offshore. This does mean team meetings and standups are usually in the afternoon due to timezone differences. What will success look like for the candidate in this role? We are looking for someone who is not afraid to step up and lead the team on all things technical. Someone who can be the voice for best engineering practices and is capable of taking ownership across a wide range of data products and workflows. What is your favourite thing about working for BNZ? At least 7 years of experience in data analysis and engineering Proficiency in SQL, Python, and hands-on experience with cloud environments, Snowflake, Airflow, and Jenkins. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate and lead external vendors to drive successful delivery. Understanding and experienced at peer reviewing pull requests for Snowflake, Airflow, and Application code (e.g. Scala or java based languages) Design components which are within the BNZ best practice What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this role?
