JOB DESCRIPTION

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Austin Innovation Technical Center, GM Georgia IT Innovation Center, GM Global Technical Center, or Mountain View Technical Center three times per week (at minimum).
We are the Physical eCommerce Software Engineering team within the Digital Products Engineering (DPE) organization at GM. Our team is responsible for the GM Global B2C and B2B eCommerce solution for physical products (Parts & Accessories), and provide backend services for the sales of GM Energy Products (Home Charger and Charger Adapters). We collaborate closely with Accessories marketing and CCA businesses driving online sales through our platform, providing an end to end digital and innovative experience at scale while providing meaningful value to our customers through a seamless customer experience.
Our main goals are improving the customer experience, driving sales, and expanding our solution to other potential lines of business for physical products with the opportunity to explore Market Place approaches.

YOUR SKILLS & ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or related practical experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience with a focus in data engineering
  • Master level proficiency in Java, Python, and BASH scripting
  • Mastery in comprehension and application of data architecture standards and design patterns.
  • Mastery of table and query tuning, data loading, and data management techniques
  • Expert Knowledge of data replication and/or disaster recovery capabilities
  • Mastery in identifying gaps in data to support requests and deliver business value
  • Mastery in breaking down deliverables into tasks with estimates and dependencies
  • Mastery in core set of relational or NoSQL databases (i.e Oracle and Postgres)
  • Ability to drive architecture change in order to provide world class data solutions
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE EDGE (PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • 10+ years of professional experience in software industry
  • 5+ years of experience contributing to the architecture, documentation and design of new and existing systems (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling)
  • Professional experience in an eCommerce space
  • Professional experience working with HCL Commerce
  • Professional experience with Datadog
  • Professional experience integrating with Coveo search platform
  • Experience with automotive industry standards
Responsibilities

THE ROLE

We’re seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Data Engineer to lead design, implementation, and improvements to the database schemas and ETL processes. You will play a key role in performance optimization, managing data across environments, and debugging complex issues. You will also be responsible for detection and resolution of production data issues, along with root cause analysis and preventative measures.
You will be responsible for helping to lead our engineering efforts through planning, design and architecture, and execution. As a technical leader on the team, you will drive best practices, mentor less experienced engineers, build strong relationships with technical leaders on other teams, and facilitate a strong team culture.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Drive the design, implementation, and optimization of database schemas
  • Own our ETL processes for Parts and Accessories catalogs, pricing, fitment, and related data
  • Identify gaps and improvement opportunities in existing processes, and design/implement new solutions
  • Improve reliability of ETL processes, reducing incidents counts and time to detect/resolve issues
  • Performance tuning of SQL queries and ETL processes
  • Work with data, development, and operations teams to design solutions and debug complex issues
  • Plan and lead production database and ETL activities with zero disruption or downtime
  • Identify gaps and improvement opportunities in monitoring systems
  • Lead efforts in migrating to new platforms and technologies
  • Work closely with junior data engineers to grow their skillsets
  • Understand and adhere to Autocare industry standards
  • Initiate, plan, and execute large-scale, cross functional, and org-wide critical programs
  • Leverage your technical leadership to ensure we adhere to engineering best practices, and evangelize opportunities to improve engineering productivity and craftsmanship
