Description

About the job

Senior Data Engineer

Location: London

Employment Type: Permanent/Hybrid

Role Summary

We are building out our core analytics infrastructure to power trading, finance, risk, and operational intelligence across the business. We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to take ownership of our cloud data platform, establishing a solid Snowflake Lakehouse ecosystem that brings together data from multiple internal platforms and external APIs.

This is a key hire for an engineer who excels at building clean, resilient data platforms. You will handle everything from raw ingestion and dbt modeling to delivering optimized semantic layers for business-wide reporting.

What You’ll Do

Data Platform & Engineering

  • Take full ownership of our Snowflake data environment, integrating structured and semi-structured datasets.
  • Build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines pulling from trading systems, CRM platforms, risk engines, and financial databases.
  • Design robust data models using medallion architecture principles (Bronze/Silver/Gold) to support both fast-paced analytics and strict regulatory needs.
  • Implement best practices around data orchestration, automated testing, versioning, and lineage tracking.

Semantic Layer & Analytics

  • Build high-performance semantic models on top of Snowflake using Power BI, DAX, calculation groups, and row/object-level security (RLS/OLS).
  • Partner with business teams to deliver intuitive dashboards, operational reports, and clear data extracts.

Performance & Governance

  • Keep our data secure and compliant with FCA and GDPR guidelines.
  • Keep close tabs on Snowflake performance, tuning queries, managing warehouse sizing, and controlling storage costs.

Collaboration

  • Work hand-in-hand with Trading, Finance, Marketing, Risk, and Compliance teams to map out business needs and build reliable technical solutions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Financial Services Background: Proven track record working within fintech, capital markets, trading, or broader financial services environments.
  • Snowflake Expertise: Solid experience designing, managing, and optimizing Snowflake warehouses, including cost management, clustering, and query profile analysis.
  • Modern Data Stack: 2+ years writing production-grade dbt models (snapshots, macros, testing frameworks, and exposures).
  • Dimensional Modeling: Strong SQL foundation and expertise with star schemas, Snowflake schemas, and analytical data modeling.
  • Power BI & DAX Mastery: 3+ years building enterprise Power BI semantic models over cloud warehouses. Hands-on experience with DAX (time intelligence, calculation groups), Power Query/M, Tabular Editor, and DAX Studio.
  • Data Governance: Practical knowledge of handling sensitive financial data within regulatory frameworks (FCA, GDPR).

Desirable Skills

  • Scripting experience in Python.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and DevOps tooling (AWS, Terraform, Git, GitHub Actions).
  • Exposure to modern analytics patterns like Microsoft Fabric, Power BI Embedded, or Snowflake Cortex.
