Job Description JOB PURPOSE Fastmarkets Data team is a new and dynamic function supporting the business in developing and delivering our data strategy through data, insights, and business intelligence. Highly valued by the business we are working hard to transform data function and ways of working. Reporting directly into the Head of Cloud Engineering and working closely with our Data Platform & AI Manager, we are looking for the right candidate to manage and optimize our Snowflake data platform. This is a fantastic opportunity to join us at the start of our journey to bring Data, BI, Analytics, and Insights together into a high performing workstream in its own right. The will play a key role in enabling our vision of a data-led culture through robust platform management, security, and operational excellence. This role will be responsible for the administration, optimization, and governance of our Snowflake environment, ensuring it supports our decentralized teams efficiently, securely, and cost-effectively. The Postholder will work closely with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders across the organization to maintain a scalable, secure, and performant data platform that enables teams to work autonomously while maintaining appropriate controls. The Postholder will be accountable for implementing and maintaining best practices in platform administration, security management, and DataOps principles. The role requires a hands-on approach with strong technical expertise in Snowflake administration and a deep understanding of infrastructure-as-code and declarative configuration management. The successful candidate will also leverage AI tools to enhance productivity and streamline administrative workflows. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES · Design, implement, and maintain Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) frameworks to ensure secure and appropriate data access across decentralized teams and business units · Enable self-service data access for distributed teams while maintaining security, governance, and compliance standards · Manage network security configurations including firewall rules, network policies, and Azure Private Link connectivity · Implement and maintain replication strategies for disaster recovery and business continuity · Drive cost optimization initiatives through resource monitoring, warehouse sizing, query optimization, and efficient storage management · Manage and optimize development, testing, and production environments using cloning and time-travel features · Implement CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and other DevOps tools for automated deployment and configuration management · Develop and maintain declarative infrastructure-as-code using tools such as Terraform, SnowSQL scripts, or Snowflake's SQL API · Champion DataOps principles and eliminate manual "click-ops" in favor of automated, version-controlled configurations · Monitor platform performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement proactive optimization strategies · Manage database objects, schemas, warehouses, and resource monitors to ensure optimal platform performance · Design and implement access patterns that support decentralized team structures while maintaining centralized governance · Establish and maintain platform monitoring, alerting, and logging processes · Leverage AI tools to automate routine administrative tasks, generate documentation, and enhance operational efficiency · Define and track KPIs for platform performance, availability, and cost efficiency · Document platform configurations, procedures, and best practices · Provide technical guidance and support to data engineering and analytics teams across the organization · Stay current with Snowflake features and updates, evaluating and implementing new capabilities as appropriate KEY INTERFACES · Head of Cloud Engineering · Data Platform & AI Manager · Data Governance Manager · Decentralized data and analytics teams across business units · Fastmarkets Senior Leadership Team Qualifications KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated, driven, and have a passion to be part of a fast-paced, successful team. Being a strong team player is also important as well as someone who is happy to work flexibly. · Proven experience as a Postholder or in a similar data platform administration role · Deep understanding of Snowflake architecture, features, and best practices · Expert knowledge of Snowflake security including RBAC, network policies, and data encryption · Experience designing access control frameworks for decentralized or federated team structures · Strong experience with infrastructure-as-code and declarative configuration management (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) · Proficiency in SQL and SnowSQL for platform administration and automation · Experience implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or similar tools · Knowledge of Azure cloud services and Azure Private Link configuration · Experience with cost optimization strategies and resource management in cloud data platforms · Understanding of DataOps principles and practices · Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot) into day-to-day workflows for automation, documentation, code generation, and problem-solving · Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git and GitHub · Experience with monitoring and observability tools · Knowledge of database replication, backup, and disaster recovery strategies · Strong analytical and problem-solving skills · Excellent documentation and communication skills · Ability to balance centralized governance with decentralized team autonomy · Experience with modern data stack components (e.g., DBT, Fivetran, Dagster) will be advantageous · Experience with BI tools (e.g., Qlik, Tableau, PowerBI) will be advantageous · Understanding of data governance principles and practices will be advantageous · Snowflake certifications (e.g., SnowPro Core, SnowPro Advanced Administrator) will be advantageous Additional Information Our Values Fastmarkets people come from all different walks of life.
