Job Purpose/Role The machine learning engineering chapter at Allianz Direct is a global team consisting of experienced data scientists / machine learning engineers that have been pioneering new use cases in insurance and building a modern machine learning platform. The team is responsible for the development, deployment, and maintenance of machine learning models in all 5 countries where Allianz Direct is currently active. We are looking for a senior data scientist / machine learning engineer to grow the team, to build and deploy machine learning solutions to serve business needs. Key Responsibilities: You will get to: Work with experienced data scientists / ML engineers and focus on building one or two machine learning solutions at a time. Develop your models end-to-end, from ideation with business stakeholders to deployment and monitoring. Dive into a range of challenging modelling problems around our pricing engine, claim processes, customer contact center and operations. You can expect to tackle problems using classification, regression, anomaly detection, survival modelling, time series and large language models. Utilize our mature next generation data platform hosted on Databricks, containing well organized data across all Allianz Direct countries. Help to extend our machine learning platform used for development and deployment of a range of models, in both batch and API inference modes. Collaborate with dev engineers to embed a deployed model into company processes. Contribute to our continuously evolving way of working and internal packages, as well as benefit from and contribute to our weekly knowledge sharing sessions. Work on a modern tech stack. We use Python, Databricks, AzureML, MLflow and can leverage shared compute for large training jobs. Work together with diverse international colleagues based in Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and France. Qualifications: Academic degree (MSc or PhD), preferably in a relevant technical field such as computer science, data science, physics, econometrics, or engineering. A strong foundation in machine learning theory. You know how to properly apply a wide range of algorithms for classification, regression, and other data science problems. At least 4 years of experience in a similar data science or ML engineering role. A love for coding. Programming experience in Python is required and you are familiar with libraries like pandas/scikit-learn, and have experience doing hyper parameter tuning for a diverse set of models including boosting models. Experience with MLOps on Databricks or experience within the insurance business are a strong plus. You are a self-learner. You are eager to keep developing and improving, and stay on top of the latest developments. You enjoy both sharing knowledge and learning from others. Fluent in English.
