EXPERIENCE IS IMPORTANT TO US:

  • Experience with Aurora Postgres and/or PostgreSQL in large-scale, enterprise environments (create and run queries, monitor health, install system patches, create reports, add users, reset passwords, etc.).
  • Experience with SQL
  • Familiar with infrastructure code
  • Knows Atlassian suite to include Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence Bamboo or Jenkins
  • Strong skills with Shell Scripting or Bash, experience related to automation and line experience is required.
  • Proficiency in database maintenance, patching, security best practices, connection protocols, troubleshooting, and backup/recovery strategies.
  • Strong experience with database tuning, query optimization, and performance monitoring tools.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and automation of database tasks (scripting, CI/CD pipelines).
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS) and hands-on experience in managing databases in a cloud environment to include CLI, CloudFormation, RDS, Auora, EC2, and etc.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
    Nice to have skills include: Python, AWS certification, DynamoDB, PL/PGSQL or PL/SQL
Responsibilities

The DBA will work extensively with Amazon Aurora Postgres and Amazon DynamoDB, handling both the operational and developmental aspects of database management. The role involves working with cross-functional teams, maintaining high performance, and ensuring data security across complex, large-scale architectures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee routine patching, maintenance, and upgrades to ensure system integrity and reliability.
  • Implement patch management strategies to address security vulnerabilities and performance improvements.
  • Implement robust security measures for database systems, including encryption, authentication protocols, access control, and regular auditing.
  • Monitor and analyze database performance, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Apply tuning techniques for query optimization, indexing strategies, and resource management to enhance overall performance.
  • Address database slowdowns, perform root cause analysis, and apply corrective actions to maintain optimal performance.
  • Develop and manage database backup strategies, including automated snapshotting and disaster recovery plans.
  • Ensure high availability and reliability by creating scalable recovery solutions for both Aurora Postgres and DynamoDB.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure smooth database connections in microservice architectures.
  • Manage different database connection protocols, such as JDBC, ODBC, and other integration methods, to support various applications.
  • Troubleshoot connection issues across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to integrate database management into CI/CD pipelines and automate routine database tasks such as backups, replication, and deployment through scripting and DevOps tools.
  • Use performance monitoring tools (e.g., AWS CloudWatch, Datadog) to proactively track and manage database health.
  • Generate reports on system usage, performance metrics, and security compliance.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including development, security, and operations teams, to support enterprise-level applications.
  • Engage with stakeholders to align database solutions with organizational goals and future scaling needs.
