JOB SUMMARY

As a Senior Database Administrator, you will play a key leadership role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the technical infrastructure that supports the application needs of the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF). This position oversees a wide range of platforms and systems that serve diverse users across the organization. You will bring deep technical expertise in infrastructure, architecture, security, and database administration to ensure the reliability, performance, and integration of mission-critical systems. In this role, you’ll also contribute to crisis management efforts and provide strategic guidance on how systems interact across networks, platforms, databases, and application servers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Position requires a minimum of five (5) years of IT experience focused on IBM mainframe database design, administration, and lifecycle management.

Experience must include:

  • Working with Software AG products, including NATURAL, ADABAS, and PREDICT.
  • Proficiency in job control language (JCL), file structures, and working within online/mainframe environments.
  • Utilizing IBM utilities and MVS/TSO for DASD placement and implementing application fixes.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and lead major database administration projects, including providing technical guidance and direction to team members.
  • Communicating complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Providing excellent customer service, including active listening, empathy, and effective problem-solving.

A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Deep understanding of data processing concepts, including both hardware and software architecture.
  • In-depth knowledge of how operating systems interact with database management systems and application software.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for resolving complex hardware and software issues, with an understanding of how system configurations (e.g., operations scheduling, data set placement) impact overall performance and service levels.
  • Expertise in system software internals, with the ability to identify faulty components and assess the potential impact of third-party tools on system stability.
