Job description
We’re fully committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone. We welcome flexible working patterns, including compressed hours.
As the Senior Deed Technician in Estates, you’ll be part of a small team working on the Digitising Estates Legal documents and Deeds, developing and solving ongoing technical issues and requirements. You will be building on the progress and processes from the previous years working on the project to bring it to completion and help embed technical changes and improvements into business-as-usual ways of working. You will also provide technical leadership for the Deed Technicians and Surveyors within Estates utilising your legislative, terrier and surveying skills and knowledge.
Together with the technical aspects of the roll you will be reviewing, cataloguing and preparing Deed Packets for scanning by an external third party. This will require an eye for detail and accuracy of information processing and data transfer.
This role also requires good customer service with Estates Surveyors and Project Support Officers to retrieve and send digital or original copies of the Deeds whilst they are being processed. You will be required to support customers with their technical needs and questions regarding the Deeds and their content, together with interpretation of them to answer specific questions and requirements.
Being part of our Team, you’ll need to be a self-starter keen to join a group of team players who have a desire to improve how we deliver our work and make a difference to improve the environment.
Responding to incidents is an important part of what we do, and with this in mind you’ll have an incident role and should be ready to make yourself available to respond or provide business continuity support.
The team
The Estates Team sits within the larger Corporate and National Services directorate. You can read more about the directorate in the Additional Information pack.
The Estates service extends to 160 people, offering professional support for Environment Agency land, property, compensation and valuation matters. We are core to the delivery of the Agency’s £5.2 billion capital programme to better protect 336,000 homes.

  • Ability to work with discretion when processing sensitive information and understanding of appropriate data management practices.
  • Provide detailed technical advice and guidance regarding the Deeds and terrier information.
  • Demonstrate technical leadership for the project and those working on it.
  • Deliver the required project outcomes in a timely manner and to deadlines.
  • Be prepared to challenge and support decision making where appropriate.
