Job Title: Senior Design Engineer

Reporting to: Design Engineering Manager
Location: Maidenhead and Leamington Spa

CORE REQUIREMENTS:

o Degree qualified or similar qualification.
o 4 - 7 years transmission / gearbox design experience from concept through to production release.
o Capable of working efficiently as part of a small team to tight deadlines.
o Can work with autonomy to lead small-to-medium scale transmission design and analysis projects, with support from the wider engineering team as required.
o The ability to use a range of design, simulation and analysis tools to solve complex problems (direct experience of Romax, KiSSsoft, MASTA, ANSYS, Particleworks is an advantage).
o An ability to apply learnings from previous experiences to new and novel problems.
o Can convert customer requirements into design specifications with which designs can be assessed against.
o Can demonstrate experience in the design and analysis of transmission geartrain and precision machined components.
o Knowledge of transmission production methods.
o Working knowledge of gearbox analytical & experimental validation procedures.
o Highly creative ability to design new technical concepts.
o Capable of working with Creo CAD systems & Windchill.
o Strong communication and written skills – able to generate technical reports and present these to customers.

o Lead small-to-medium scale transmission design projects – planning resource, leading design and analysis activities, leading customer communications – ensuring the project is delivered on time, to budget and meets the customer’s expectations.
o Working within teams to support design and analysis tasks for existing and novel transmission components and sub-systems.
o Support production engineering with supplier assessment and liaison.
o Support DFMEA generation for transmission and driveline components.
o Apply appropriate quality tools in resolution of design issues.
o Perform tolerance calculations/checking
o Perform design calculations (shaft strength/bearing/synchronisers/gears).
o Prepare, check 2D drawings for release.
o Use of analytical softwares like MASTA / ANSYS / Particleworks to support design decisions.
o Produce project presentations.
o Supervise/support junior transmission design engineers.
