The project: The Senior Design Manager role is a senior multidisciplinary design management position within Mace’s consulting team. The role provides experienced design management leadership across complex infrastructure assignments, supporting the coordination, integration and delivery of multidisciplinary design solutions. Working closely with senior project leadership, discipline leads and wider project teams, the Senior Design Manager plays a key role in ensuring design activities are effectively planned, coordinated, reviewed and aligned to support safe, buildable and operable outcomes. The role also supports the development of design management capability, providing leadership and guidance to design management team members and contributing to continuous improvement in ways of working. You’ll be responsible for: Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary design activities across large infrastructure projects. Manage design integration and technical interfaces across multiple disciplines, contracts and workstreams. Plan, chair and facilitate design, interface and coordination meetings. Provide oversight of design development, ensuring alignment between design packages and programme objectives. Support design review and assurance processes, including management of issues, risks and actions through to resolution. Work collaboratively with discipline leads, project managers and wider stakeholders to resolve design and interface challenges. Support the effective flow of design information between designers, project teams and client representatives. Provide leadership, direction and technical oversight to Design Managers and Design Project Coordinators within the team. Support continuous improvement of design management processes, tools and reporting across the business. Communicate design progress, risks and issues clearly to senior stakeholders. You’ll need to have: Significant experience in design management or multidisciplinary design coordination roles on large infrastructure projects. Strong experience working in complex, multi‑disciplinary environments, ideally within rail or transit infrastructure. Proven capability in managing design integration, technical interfaces and coordination across multiple stakeholders. Understanding of design delivery processes, governance and assurance frameworks. Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Degree (or equivalent experience) in engineering, construction or a related built‑environment discipline. Professional accreditation (e.g. P.Eng, CEng) or progress toward chartership is desirable. Eligibility to work in Canada and ability to meet standard onboarding requirements.
