YOUR APPLICATION MUST DESCRIBE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AS THEY RELATE TO:

  • Post-secondary education in an applied design or related programs, or the approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Considerable experience in an applied design field (such as GIS [Cartography/Geomatics], planning technology, architectural visualization and/or graphic design).
  • Considerable experience using software for mapping, drawing, imaging, three-dimensional visualization, rendering, presentation, data management and publishing including online/interactive publications (such as QGIS, ESRI, the Adobe Creative Suite, AutoDesk, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office Suite).

Responsibilities:

Matrix Reporting relationship between the Graphics and Visualization Program Manager and the District Supervisor, the Sr. Design Technologist will provide direction to Design Technologists for the customization of software tools to enhance productivity, establish standards for file and data maintenance, and document working procedures for the creation of graphic products associated with planning and architectural communication. These products will include legislative mapping, thematic mapping and 3d visualization created from a variety of sources (client conference, site visit, data, text and/or images) using GIS, CAD and design software for publication and/or display.

  • Designs, prepares and maintains data for the production of maps, three-dimensional models and graphics using analytical (GIS) and design (CAD & Creative) software for print publication, display and digital distribution.
  • Prepares, maintains and verifies the Official Plan and Zoning By-law mapping.
  • Establishes standards for the creation and maintenance of base data, documents the working procedure, demonstrates and mentors proper techniques to other staff.
  • Retrieves, manipulates and translates data from a variety of file formats and sources.
  • Customizes hardware and software to enhance productivity.
  • Provides technical support and training for graphic applications to division staff.
  • Liaises with internal and external professional, technical and legal staff to discuss and obtain data for projects, community consultation events and evidence for TLAB/LPAT (OMB) hearings.
  • Provides support at community consultation events.
