DRAFTER/DETAILER

The Detailing Department brings our clients’ designs to life. The successful Detailer applies our typical construction methods for components containing wood, composites, metal, glass, plexiglass, and combinations thereof to produce fabrication drawings and 3D models that reflect the client’s design. Our team drafts elegant ways to incorporate lighting strategies, electrical/data pathways and hardware, desiccation, and ventilation in exhibit/museum/trade show components. SolidWorks proficiency is a must, with a strong emphasis on parametric modeling. SolidWorks surface modeling is a plus. AutoCAD experience is a plus. CNC machine coding or operations experience a must.

DESIRED SKILL QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONALITY TRAITS:

  • Familiarity with fabrication shop activities including CNC machining.
  • CNC Programming, SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD experience required.
  • Willingness to work overtime during periods of high demand.
  • Ability to thrive in a busy, sometimes stressful environment.

Responsibilities
  1. Supporting our in-house Design department during a project’s “Design” phase by:
  • Converting pdf floorplans into functional drawing files (for use in 2D and 3D design software)
  • Translating architecture drawings (electrical, fire suppression, data cables, etc) into functional plan and elevation dwg files (for use in 2D and 3D design software)
  • Creating Design-level detail drawings for wall-mounted items, 3D objects, casework, interactives, and other typical components. Work with Design team to help create buildable interactive/complex elements using typical Hadley fabrication methods.
  1. Developing drawings throughout a project’s “Fabrication Drawing Approval” phase, including:
  • Drafting shop drawings based on estimate (build concept), Project Manager input, and shop experience (“how to” discussions with foreman) for submittal to clients.
  • Revising shop drawings based on client redlines. Identifying conflict points for PM to resolve.
  • Using in-house standards for file names, revision levels, dwg/pdf filing location, and other dwg change management mechanisms.
  • Including hardware, materials, and graphics schedules on each dwg to facilitate materials procurement and graphics production.
  • Drafting “Change Order” shop drawings as required by the Project Manager.
  1. Supporting our shop through a project’s “Fabrication” phase, including:
  • Creating step files and/or breakout drawings for individual materials (glass, plex, metal, etc), either for external vendor fabrication, in-house fabrication, or internal CNC programming.
  • Creating shop drawings as necessary to clarify fabrication intent.
  • Creating jig drawings as necessary to expedite fabrication of repetitive parts/interfaces.
  • Working with shop personnel at the bench to clarify fabrication intent.
  • Collecting shop “as-built” information, creating as-built drawings, and filing appropriately.
  1. Supporting our Installation teams by:
  • Drafting & updating floorplans with relevant location measurements for each component.
  • Providing assembly instructions for on-site assembled items.
  • Assembling a full drawing set for installation teams.
  • Being available to answer installation calls/requests ASAP, to keep the install moving forward.
  1. Complying with Detailing Department record-keeping standards including:
  • Using project-specific assigned dwg naming conventions, revision levels, and filing locations.
  • Retaining and appropriately filing PM-signed hard copy of client “approved” drawings.
  • Creating and appropriately filing PM-initialed/dated PDF of client “approved” drawings.
  • Assisting in occasional drawing archiving as necessary.
  1. Supporting Detailing Department continuous improvement efforts by:
  • Documenting and sharing issues that involve commonly used components/concepts (i.e. hinges, locks, glass capture, scribe-able edges, desiccant options, etc.).
  • Consulting with Senior Detailers when drafting elements we frequently draft (e.g. cabinetry, casework, AV surrounds, etc.)
  • Participating in team “Detail Dive” meetings to leverage department experience.
