PROFILE SUMMARY

Wesgroup is poised for substantial growth over the next several years and in preparation for this exciting and challenging phase, we are actively seeking a highly engaged, driven and experienced Senior Development Accountant to join our team.
The Senior Development Accountant works closely with several internal departments to prepare monthly progress draws, including accurate reporting of project status, sales progress, costs incurred, and costs to complete. This role reports to the Assistant Manager, Development Accounting and is an integral part of the Development Accounting team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Review and approve payables, contracts, and CO’s/PO’s for accuracy and prepare invoice accruals as requested by the project managers.
  • Prepare and analyze job cost reports, working closely with the project manager and development manager to manage the project budget.
  • Prepare monthly loan progress draws including supporting documentation.
  • Complete monthly trial balance reviews with variance analysis to identify any adjustments required.
  • Prepare project cashflow forecasts, updating monthly for project proforma changes in estimates and schedules.
  • Prepare GST reconciliations and monthly journal entries including chargebacks, cost allocations, asset transfers, amortizations, sales closings and loan fundings.
  • Prepare weekly, mid-month, and month-end payment listing and ensuring WCB, COI, and Stat Decs are all received on contractor invoices.
  • Training other team members, mentoring and reviewing their work
  • Assist with external audit and review engagements as required.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • 3-5 years of Development/Construction Accounting experience.
  • 5+ years of Accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA Designation preferred.
  • Experience with mentoring and training other team members preferred.
  • Yardi Voyager 7S experience preferred.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills, with an ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks while working independently.
  • Excellent oral communication skills and ability to draft clear and concise written communications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills with ability to develop creative and strategic solutions to issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including a proven ability to build relationships.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must have strong Microsoft Excel Skills.
  • Ability to analyze trial balance, job cost report, or other financial reports to identify variances and errors, and provide recommendations/suggestions for correction.
  • Accounting knowledge specifically for real estate under ASPE.
