POSITION OVERVIEW:
Canacol Energy is seeking a Senior Development Geologist to join its Calgary office, with a primary focus on advancing the development of the company’s clastic gas assets in Colombia. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving the economically effective development of conventional onshore reservoirs by preparing and updating detailed subsurface maps, delivering reservoir descriptions and volumetric assessments, and identifying new development opportunities. Working within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, the senior development geologist will play a key role in planning and executing development wells in existing multi-zone gas pools, generating workover prospects, identifying infill drilling locations, and supporting the creation of new exploration opportunities, while ensuring alignment with management and stakeholder expectations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
· M.Sc. or higher in Geology, Earth Science, or related discipline is essential
· Professional Geologist designation from APEGA or similar is required
· 15+ years of development geology experience working in an integrated operating company is required
· Strong experience working in structurally complex basins with limited well coverage is a must
· Significant experience working onshore, conventional gas reservoirs (specifically fluvial, estuarine & shallow marine) is essential
· Expert proficiency with Petrel software is essential
· Experience with resource volumetric assessment and reserves process are essential
· Extensive experience with detailed subsurface field mapping (depth structure, faults, isopach, net pay and palaeogeographic maps), cross-sections and facies interpretation are requirements
· Experience building geocellular models and assessing risk is strongly desired
· Ability to QC, import and manipulate a variety of geological, seismic and borehole data
· Experience in seismic interpretation and time-depth conversion is considered an asset
· Significant experience with project management
· Excellent written and oral presentation/communication skills
· Ability to travel internationally
· Spanish language is an asset
· Generate and maintain technically defendable subsurface maps and cross-sections of reservoirs through analysis and integration of wireline logs, seismic and dynamic data
· Incorporate regional facies trends, net pay, porosity and fluid saturations into prospect evaluations and volumetric assessments
· Drive field development planning by recommending, planning and drilling development wells and advising on potential drilling hazards
· Identify and propose workover, well interventions (i.e., recompletions, stimulations, isolations, bypassed pay), and infill drilling opportunities
· Collaborate with engineering team to support ongoing reservoir surveillance
· Provide technical oversight of operations and field geologists during drilling campaigns
· Generate static geomodels to estimate best development way forward and quantify risk
· Generate pertinent geological information to support reserve audit cycle
· Clearly communicate and present development plans to stakeholders
· Support regulatory requests, reserve auditors and other third-party processes
· Provide training and mentoring for junior geologists and other geoscience staff
