Description
We are looking for an experienced Senior Development Manager, Data Centre to oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of data centre construction projects in Japan. This role involves managing cross-functional teams, coordinating with all external and internal stakeholders, project reporting and ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. Key Responsibilities Project Planning and Execution Oversee the entire lifecycle of ESR data centre construction projects, from site origination to commissioning. Develop and maintain comprehensive data centre project plans, including timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and risk assessments. Ensure alignment with technical specifications, project budget, customer and operational requirements, and industry best practices. Stakeholder Management Serve as the project expert and primary point of contact for all aspects of the project with internal ESR teams, operating partners, external vendors, contractors, government authorities and customers. Manage internal and external stakeholders, partners and customers, including capital, design, construction, engineering, power, telecommunications and operations to define and deliver to project requirements. Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution. Budget and Risk Management Manage project budgets, ensuring cost control and accurate forecasting. Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize delays and disruptions. Track project performance and provide regular updates to senior management and stakeholders. Compliance and Quality Assurance Ensure projects comply with Japanese building codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards. Conduct quality assurance checks throughout the project lifecycle to maintain high standards of delivery. Team Leadership Lead and motivate cross-functional project teams, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members as needed. Required Skills and Experience Experience: 7+ years of experience in project management, with at least 3 years in data centre or large-scale infrastructure projects. Knowledge: Strong understanding of data centre design, construction, and operations. Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field (PMP or PRINCE2 certification is a plus). Language Skills: Proficiency in Japanese (native or near-native level) and English (business level). Technical Expertise: Familiarity with the overall data centre development process combined with specific expertise in areas such as real estate development, DC design, power systems, cooling systems, DC commissioning or operations. Budget Management: Proven experience managing multimillion-dollar project budgets. Preferred Skills Experience with hyperscale or colocation data centre projects. Knowledge of renewable energy and sustainable construction practices. Strong relationships with contractors, consultants, and local authorities in Japan.
