Reporting to a Sinai Health Foundation Senior Philanthropy Director, the Senior Development Officer, Philanthropy will manage a portfolio of individual major gift prospects and work closely with the Philanthropy Director to support their work on additional donor and prospect strategy and various projects. The Senior Development Officer, Philanthropy, will be an experienced fundraiser and an effective writer and communicator; they will be highly organized, and solutions oriented. Establishing and building collaborative relationships with various internal and external stakeholders will be critical to success.
The successful candidate will be an adaptable individual with excellent interpersonal skills, who is able to manage multiple priorities in a high-performing fundraising environment.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- A successful completion of a University or College Diploma in a related field from an accredited educational institution. Proven equivalent and recent related education, training and experience may be considered
- 3-6 years of experience in the charitable sector, with a track record of contributing to successful fundraising programs and working in collaboration with stakeholders to manage the solicitation and ongoing stewardship of gifts
- Self-starter with a bias for action; the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work, while managing multiple tasks and meeting tight deadlines
- Flexible; comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Well-organized and detail-oriented, with strong computer and administrative skills; comfortable with the Microsoft Office suite; experience with Raiser’s Edge or another relational database preferred
- Tactful, diplomatic, and confident with a keen ability to develop, foster and maintain relationships; capable of interacting effectively with physicians, researchers, donors, and volunteers
- Ability to work both collaboratively within a team and independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; can translate complex concepts into digestible and understandable narratives
- Proven strategic and solutions-oriented thinking, combined with exceptional project management skills

Sinai Health Foundation is a hybrid workplace, located in downtown Toronto. Currently, all employees are in-office on Tuesdays for the Foundation’s “anchor day”, as well as approximately 24 additional in-person corporate meetings, events or activities annually. Additional in-person requirements vary by team and job function. Our Workplace Flexibility policy is reviewed on a bi-annual basis to ensure the current state of hybrid work is meeting our organizational needs.
The salary range for this role is $87,151 to $108,939 annually
Responsibilities:
- Effectively manage a portfolio of 60-80 prospects in various stages of the fundraising cycle (identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship), with a high rate of activity that ensures frequent movement between stages; revenue target of $500K-$1M annually
- Work closely with Philanthropy Director to support prospect and donor activity, internal Foundation and Hospital activity, board and volunteer management, and strategic projects and initiatives in support of the various areas of care in the portfolio
- In consultation with the Foundation’s Research team, prepare briefing notes, background research on prospects, follow-up materials to donor interactions, and organize and attend internal or external meetings related to fundraising efforts involving the Philanthropy Director
- Develop fundraising materials, including, but not limited to, proposals, cases for support, and donor correspondences; this will involve working directly with clinicians and researchers to become familiar with their programs and areas of care
- Update and maintain accurate and timely prospect, donor, and volunteer information within the Foundation’s database (Raiser’s Edge) to enable accurate and reliable reporting.
