In short: You will manage and improve an existing AWS and Kubernetes environment, automate infrastructure, optimize CI/CD processes, and support development teams with self-service solutions, documentation, and advice on security and platform usage. For one of our clients, we are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps / AWS Platform Engineer to help further improve an existing cloud environment and support development teams in working with the infrastructure as independently as possible. The emphasis within this assignment lies on configuration, automation, platform improvement, and developer enablement. This is explicitly not a heavy software development or architecture role. However, you are expected to be technically independent, able to tackle complex infrastructure issues, and provide advice on practical improvements based on your experience. The Assignment You will work within an existing AWS and Kubernetes environment and focus on managing, configuring, and improving the platform. An important goal is to make infrastructure tasks simpler and more transferable. Development teams should not have to rely on a DevOps Engineer for frequent changes. Where specialized knowledge is required, you will handle the more complex issues. For simpler tasks, you focus on automation, clear configuration, documentation, and knowledge transfer. The organization is specifically looking for someone with a can-do mentality. You don't just look at why something is technically difficult or risky, but actively investigate how a request can be realized. In doing so, you take security, stability, compliance, and governance into account. Responsibilities You will be involved in, among other things: – managing and configuring the existing AWS cloud environment; – managing and improving Kubernetes configurations and workloads; – automating infrastructure and operational tasks; – working with Infrastructure as Code; – improving and maintaining CI/CD processes; – working with GitHub within the development and deployment environment; – setting up and managing AWS IAM and access rights; – configuring and supporting network and DNS issues; – working with Cloudflare; – monitoring and troubleshooting using AWS CloudWatch, among others; – supporting environments with MySQL and PostgreSQL; – working with messaging and platform services such as RabbitMQ; – improving the way developers use infrastructure; – developing self-service capabilities where practical and responsible; – documenting and making technical solutions transferable; – advising on improvements regarding infrastructure, security, and platform usage. Additionally, you may be asked to contribute ideas regarding the infrastructure required for new applications, including AI agents. This is an additional area of focus and not a core part of the assignment.Upon successful collaboration, the scope may later be expanded to another existing platform environment. For this assignment, it is important that you: – have extensive hands-on experience with AWS; – have experience with Kubernetes; – have experience with Infrastructure as Code; – are familiar with CI/CD processes; – have experience with IAM, security, and access management; – possess basic to good knowledge of networking and DNS; – can independently analyze and solve infrastructure problems; – can pragmatically determine when automation or standardization makes sense; – actively propose improvements rather than merely executing orders; – build solutions so that other team members can continue working with them; – can facilitate developers without creating unnecessary technical dependency; – are comfortable with new technology and are not hesitant to delve into new applications, such as AI. Experience within fintech, banking, or another regulated environment is a strong plus. Personal profile The seniority level within this assignment lies not only in technical depth, but primarily in independence, ownership, technical judgment, and advisory skills. You are someone who, when faced with a technical issue, does not automatically start with what cannot be done, but investigates which solution *is* possible. In doing so, you are able to find a good balance between speed, technical quality, security, and manageability. You also understand that a good platform should actually make developers more independent. You handle complex issues yourself when specialist knowledge is required, but you try to automate, simplify, or make transferable simple or recurring tasks as much as possible.
