We empower dedicated team-first individuals who are driven to solve problems to foster innovation, perform at their highest potential, and make a meaningful impact - while creating meaningful relationships along the way. Role and Purpose This Senior DevOps Engineer role is designed for an experienced hands-on engineer with 7–10 years in DevOps/SRE, deeply familiar with building, scaling, and optimizing cloud-native, secure platforms. You will design next-generation automation and deployment systems, mentor future team members, and partner closely with product, engineering, and leadership to lay the groundwork for our upcoming scale. This position will report to the Chief Technology Officer. It will be home office based in either the Salt Lake City, Utah or Philadelphia, PA areas and may require up to 10% travel (primarily for InterPayments internal events). Design and evolve reusable infrastructure patterns and standards to accelerate engineering delivery while minimizing complexity. Ensure high security, performance, and availability from the ground up. CI/CD & Intelligent Deployment Build, optimize, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines for frequent, reliable software releases. Embrace AI-driven analytics to predict risk, auto-trigger safe deployment paths, and reduce mean time to recovery. Support automated testing, code integration, and deployment verification whenever feasible or related to CI/CD approaches. Configuration Management Establish Git-based configuration management practices, including: Version-controlled infrastructure configurations Secure management of sensitive configuration data Design and maintain comprehensive Git repository structures that support scalable, secure, and efficient software development lifecycles Observability, Monitoring & Incident Management Establish advanced observability: system and application logs, metrics, distributed tracing (GCP Monitoring and Logging, OpenTelemetry, etc...) Define and maintain SLOs/SLIs together with engineering. Implement AI-based anomaly detection, automated alerting, and post-incident summarization for faster, data-driven root-cause analysis. Security, Compliance & Secrets Foster a proactive security posture by automating vulnerability scanning, secrets management (e.g., Vaults or Secrets Manager), and enforcing least-privilege access. Support and scale SOC2, ISO 27001, and GDPR controls, implementing AI-powered compliance monitoring and policy drift detection. Reliability, Scalability & Cost Optimization Drive process and technical improvements around reliability: backups, failover, DR plans, auto-scaling, load-balancing, and caching. Deploy and maintain AI-first cost optimization tooling for cloud resources, providing actionable recommendations to engineering and product stakeholders. Database & Data Infrastructure Lead database reliability: performance tuning, backup, data retention strategies, and horizontal/vertical scaling for SQL and NoSQL systems. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Future Growth Actively collaborate with engineering, product, security, and customer success teams. Mentor, train, and document processes for future DevOps and Platform team members, laying a scalable foundation for future Platform or SRE leadership. Support a blameless, learning-focused incident process and help shape our evolving engineering culture. Requirements 7+ years of progressive experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or Platform Engineering, with a track record in B2B SaaS. Demonstrated expertise architecting, automating, and operating production workloads in public cloud environments (GCP/Azure desirable), including hands-on use of Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Pulumi, etc.). Deep experience with CI/CD tooling (e.g., Bitbucket or Github Pipelines) and source control workflow. Advanced skills in OS-level automation (Linux), scripting (Powershell, Bash, or similar), configuration management, and monitoring/alerting (Google or Azure Monitoring and Logging, OpenTelemetry). Track record implementing AI-enhanced observability, anomaly detection, and cost optimization, or demonstrated eagerness and ability to adopt AI-driven Ops tooling. Experience establishing, maintaining, and scaling security postures: automated scanning, secrets management, IAM/least privilege, and infrastructure compliance frameworks (SOC2, ISO 27001, GDPR). Familiarity with database operations at scale for SQL and NoSQL systems. Proven ability to design internal platforms, dev environments, or self-service tooling that empower and accelerate product engineering teams. Strong collaborator: excels at cross-functional teamwork, documentation, and knowledge sharing. Demonstrated mentoring, training, or team-building experience—ideally including scaling DevOps or SRE teams from early stage. Self-starter: accustomed to autonomy in a startup or scale-up setting and excited by ambiguous, high-impact challenges. Proven ability to work cross functionally with internal stakeholders and external vendors Self-starter, independent driver who can execute with minimal supervision, balance multiple activities simultaneously, and achieve deadlines Responsible & accountable. Nice to Have’s Previous start-up experience Experience managing certifications or compliance for integrated solutions in SaaS or payments industries. Who you are You strive to uncover complex problems and find great personal and professional fulfillment in solving them. You can put yourself into the mindset of a customer to uncover problems before an actual customer does. In addition, you are: Team-oriented: You believe shared success and individual advancement go hand-in-hand. We share your values. You thrive in an inclusive, collaborative environment and hold yourself and your teammates accountable You step up and step in when your team needs you. Do the hard(er) thing. We reject complacency and embody a growth mindset because it’s more fulfilling. Being resilient, flexible, and adaptable is challenging. Seeking and delivering honest feedback is hard. Embracing open-mindedness, intellectual honesty, and respectful disagreement is tough. Being relentlessly curious, simplifying complexity, and thinking through 2nd/3rd order effects of decisions takes more work. Being highly responsive and making data-driven decisions requires more effort. We choose to do them anyway. We find reward in pushing ourselves and others beyond our comfort zones.
