Description
Malwarebytes is looking for.. We are looking for an experienced, security-minded Senior DevOps Engineer to join our Consumer team in a dual-focus role. You will be the owner of our VPN infrastructure — responsible for its reliability, security, and continued development — while spending the other half of your time contributing to AWS cloud infrastructure work alongside our DevOps team. This role is a strong fit for someone with deep Linux administration expertise who is equally at home writing Terraform, driving cloud security improvements, and participating in on-call rotations. You take full ownership of the systems you manage, apply security best practices as a non-negotiable default, make cost-conscious infrastructure decisions, and reach for automation before manual process. What You Will Do: Serve as the sole owner of our VPN server infrastructure — maintaining reliability, driving improvements, and managing incidents end-to-end. Develop and maintain Debian-based VPN server images, ensuring they are hardened, consistently deployable, and kept current. Manage and evolve our PXE server environment, including configuration, development, and ongoing maintenance. Automate infrastructure tasks and configuration management using Ansible, reducing manual toil and improving consistency across systems. Install, upgrade, and maintain backend servers across web, database, authentication, and related services. Coordinate with data centers globally to support server deployments, replacements, and capacity needs. Manage and contribute to AWS cloud infrastructure using Terraform, applying security best practices and cost-conscious design. Support and improve CI/CD pipeline infrastructure and participate in on-call rotation across both VPN and AWS environments. Apply security best practices across all managed systems — patch management, access controls, secrets management, and network hardening. Use AI coding assistants to accelerate automation work and infrastructure development. Skills You'll Need to Have: 6+ years of hands-on Linux system administration experience, with deep proficiency in Debian-based distributions and a proven track record of owning infrastructure independently. Solid experience with Ansible for configuration management and automation. Demonstrated experience owning or managing VPN server infrastructure; familiarity with the WireGuard protocol and network security fundamentals. Experience with PXE server environments and network-based provisioning. Experience managing backend server infrastructure including web, database, and authentication services. Strong AWS experience with core services — ECS, VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch. Strong Terraform experience managing infrastructure as code; you write modular, well-tested code and treat IaC security seriously. Comfort working with geographically distributed infrastructure and coordinating deployments across data centers. Security-conscious approach across both Linux and cloud systems: hardening, patch cadence, least privilege access, and secrets management. BA/BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience demonstrated through professional-tier certifications (AWS Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Professional, Linux Professional Institute, or similar preferred). Perks & Benefits: An opportunity to do something great for yourself and the world A great work environment that supports growth, development, and well-being Employee Referral Bonus Program (Benefits and Perks subject to change by country/region)
Responsibilities
The role involves sole ownership of VPN server infrastructure and contributing to AWS cloud infrastructure development. Key tasks include automating configuration with Ansible, managing Debian-based images, and ensuring overall system security and reliability.
